I just got a grain mill and completely new to this. It's crazy how whole grains are even more expensive than flour considering the flour had been milled. I had considered Azure, but will have to skip for now as I don't think I can deal with the cleaning. Maybe with more experience down the line, I'll try them out. Thanks so much for sharing this video.

I know what you mean. The cleaning can be a challenge! But I am happy to say everything I have purchased in the last few months from them, hard white, soft white (non-heirloom), einkorn, Kamut, spelt, etc. ALL has been clean and I have been buying 25 pounds at a time. I think the buckwheat still has to be cleaned. The Azure FB page is worth it, a lot of real reviews. You can check that out if your considering buying from them. My opinion, the organic variety can't be beat versus buying off Amazon. Happy milling! It's such a joy grinding your own wheat.

Thanks for the video. I always clean my grains and such from Azure, doesn’t bother me for the price savings. I do see people just scoop and grind them, I guess I’m just picky.

Great point! I guess I am too LOL, I still check the Palouse even though I never find anything. I don't mind cleaning, the savings are well worth a few minutes here and there.

Should the grains be soaked before using them in the bread machine? Also, does anything special need to be done when making bread machine bread with freshly milled wheat berries?

No the grains don’t need to be soaked unless you’re doing sprouted grains. Whole other ball game. I grind my dry wheat berries right before making bread otherwise the nutrients start depleting. You can choose to sift the bran or keep them after grinding. I tend to feed the bran to the chickens when I make bakery cakes and such otherwise I leave the bran in the bread, no sifting needed.

I use the Palouse brand also. I also purchased from Bread Beckers. I'll be curious to see what I find from Azure Standard. I'll be picking up my order this Sunday. As you, I do not have any issues sifting through the grain. It's organic and a huge savings. I finally got around to waking up my sourdough starter this morning. I used a combination of rye berries and soft wheat. I'm hoping all goes well. I also used a little sourdough starter device. We have had an annoying gnat/fruit fly issue this year. It's baffling me. I'm tidy. I keep the place clean/dry. I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of those things. I wash my dishes by hand; if I add a dishwasher, that would be helpful. I don't know. I've thought about getting one for a few years. Last week, I found a non-toxic cleaner that is supposed to kill those things. It is placed in the drain. It has reduced their numbers. I've considered doing reviews under this username on products I enjoy besides discussing my garden/freeze-drying, canning, milling, herbs, and the various herbal courses I'm taking and how I incorporate that into my home. We shall see. That's a gorgeous African Grey!

I give my sourdough rye usually once a month, it loves it! It's been so hot, even with AC, I keep my sourdough in the fridge in the summer. You should do reviews, everyone can benefit from them, I know I do :) Here is something I wrote on my blog, years ago, I really need to go in and revamp the blog, but I don't do ads (make money) I just don't have the time nowadays. farmhouse-bc.com/how-to-control-gnats-and-fruit-flies-naturally/. Unfortunately gnats are a part of summer, no matter how clean, especially when we don't use toxic chemicals.

@@FarmhouseBC Oh, so I can keep it in the refrigerator! I know it's dormant there; now I want to see if I can use that. OK, I'll do more research after work. I work from home. I have a website that's been around since 2010. I had one much older; however, I let that expire. I'm all too familiar with the limitations regarding the gnats when you don't use chemicals. 🤪 . 😃 I do all the things mentioned on your list. Great tips, by the way. I guess I am stuck until it cools down.

@@MyLivingApothecary I only keep my starter in the fridge for maybe 2 months, the rest is on my counter. I keep the house cool in the winter. I would feed it once a week if not using it. I never discard, just my old ways. Lol.

I don't think I'd be willing to spend that much time every day. I'd be concerned about a tooth being damage if I missed one. I watched a YT video regarding Processed Flour that probably saved my life. It was called: Sue Becker: Bread For Life It blew my mind! After eating the Whole Grain Wheatberries, I immediately started having 3-5 BM everyday...pain free!! Within 3 days my sugar addiction was completely gone. I lost 24 pounds in 23 days. No more inflammation, migrains, I sleep 8 hours, etc... I don't bother to bake the bread. I just soak the Wheatberries overnight, and then I simmer until they're tender. I make tortillas by grinding them in a coffee grinder, with a touch of oatmeal to help it bind, S&P, oil, and water. My food budget is only 1/4 of what it was, because all other food now tastes extremely processed.

That's awesome to hear. I do have Sue's book, I love sprouting and drying my grains. I actually chew raw fennel seeds to soothe my stomach. Great info, thanks for sharing :)
