Neshaminy Mall did not open in 1989, it opened around 1968 or so. See the plaque outside of the old original Strawbridges, it has the date on it. The mall was extended from Strawbridges (later it was Macy's) down to Boscov's later on.

I was only 12 when it opened in 1968. My mom got a job at the brand new Strawbridge's. She made $1.65 an hour as a sales associate in the China/Glass and Silver department. Most of what she made she spent on her employee discount, which she loved! We got lots of Waterford Crystal which we normally could not afford on her discount. Some was defective but hardly noticeable; she got that real cheap. I don't want to be 12 again but I do miss those days when Neshaminy Mall was the place to shop! PS: Cherry Hill and Willow Grove Park malls are still doing well and if you want the old mall experience go to one of them.

You wanna see a dead mall, check out the Chambersburg Mall in Franklin County. We literally have a movie theater, an antique store, and bath n bodyworks. The highlight of the mall: Still have a soda machine with the star wars: the phantom menace cover on it.

The mall was sooo beautiful and nice before macys closed in 2016. That was my childhood mall and when Macy’s closed that’s when it went down hill. The memories at that mall were soo awesome with my family. I even know most of all the stores that were there. Friendly’s, salad works, charming Charlie, The childrens place, justice, fye, Charlotte Russe, Express, Hollister, pac sun, modell’s sporting goods, sears, and Aeropostale. Neshaminy mall you will be in my heart ❤.

Plymouth Meeting Mall deserves a nod in your next video. Mom, bro', and I went on opening day in 1965. Who could forget the record selection at Franklin Music? I was in a bank a few years ago and the teller asked where I got my corduroy jacket. I told him Macy's in Montgomery Mall. Reflecting back, that was in 2007, and my last time in a mall.

Captain really enjoyed this video. The candy section at Boscov's is also a very big draw, their selection is hard to match when seeking jumbo chocolate covered marshmallows, or milk chocolate coconut clusters.. It should be noted that Franklin Mills has a Mega Marshalls where you can easily spend 2-3 hours walking the aisles buying random flavored oils for cooking, latest Flyers gear or a laundry room organization system. Wishing you calm seas and safe travels

I live within 5 to 15 minutes of each of these three...and to me, Neshaminy is the worst at this point. At least Franklin Mills and Oxford Valley get weekday traffic, but Neshaminy, wow! Thhe ONLY things keeping it on life support is Boscov's, the AMC theater and Barnes and Noble (which is pretty empty as of the past few weeks). I've always loved that mall, been going there since I was a kid in the late 60's and into the 70's. So sad.

My 3 malls! I like that Neshaminy looks like it is frozen in time. They still have plants! Modern malls look like "philadelphia mills". Sterile and lame. And we may as well stop calling it Franklin Mills, they stripped the fun and soul and everything out of that place. It's a lobotomized building with no aesthetic. That ain't the place I grew up. I'm glad you did the Boscov's tour, love that it's still like that. I have a fleece that's a generation old from there, and it looks like new. No joke.

They should convert these abandoned malls into indoor “neighborhoods” for patients with dementia or Alzheimer’s. The shops can be converted into apartments and the bottom level is the neighborhood with grocery store, cafe, post office, etc. They have them in Norway and the patients do well since they’re safe and keeping their minds active

@ErdTirdMans
@ErdTirdMans Жыл бұрын
This is the right approach. Malls *should* die. Turning the space into dense mixed use housing\commercial would be better for everyone. It's easier for people to see and point to the jobs and shopping options when they're all in one place, but they still exist even when they're distributed across a neighborhood that you can live near, walk to, bike to, or scooter to. All the malls do is fuel car dependency, which encourages communities to spread out because they can and they have the cars, which then encourages more car dependency, which... you see where this is going Fortunately, Philly mostly developed before this drain circling cycle began, so we are very well-poised to reverse it if we could get leadership that cared about the long-term health of the city and a transit authority that wasn't hostage to the suburbs because of the design of its board of directors
