A-England has maybe my favourite linear holo formula. So creamy abd opaque but has that fire from within glow that is amazing! My all time faves are Covent Garden and Maxim.

There’s one excellent silver holo polish missing here and no one mentions it in the comments. It an excellent formula that surprisingly came from a drug store - Revlon 765, “Holographic Pearls”! The day I bought my bottle it was on sale. SCORE! I love my ILNP & other holos, they’re all 😎 awesome, but there’s something really crafty about finding this one at Walgreen’s… Also THANKS for making great swatch comparison videos. Your collecting together of various lacquers to explore a specific feature is intuitive, creative, FUN!

Wide flat rounded brush that's all we ask for as standard. This in itself can transform the application of any polish. Great comparison review Kelli.

I tend to like something more midsized. I have some polishes with brushes so wide that they don't work well on my very curved nails (they'll paint my skin but miss the nail's curved sides). And then there are some which have such a skinny brush it confuses me because they're thinner than highstreet brands & those take a while to apply with. A nice mid-width brush is perfect. And only the teensiest bit rounded as the very rounded ones don't line up well with my nail shape on some of my nails. I think my fave brushes are the ones which come in the Barry M base & top coat polish. I know base/topcoat combo polishes are usually frowned upon, but I get 2-3 weeks of wear on average without chipping using it and most people talk about needing to touch up their top coat every few days and this one lasts perfectly well for the whole time so for £2.99 for a 10ml bottle, I can't see the point in trying anything else.

ILNP mega (X), while not a linear holo, is my most holographic nail polish. In indirect or even with minimal lighting, I still see so much rainbow. They have such good holographic formulas imo.

In terms of which types of polish I'd love to see you compare: glitter formulas, "traditional" multichromes, and the iridescent shimmer/duochrome formulas that seem to be really popular right now? After hanging out in DRK's polish-making group, I wonder if the S in Mega S actually means Spectraflair as it looks very linear. Spectraflair pigment tends to be extra holo. Or perhaps Sparkling as that's what the company who makes it appears to call the coarsest grain of Spectraflair. What do you think?

I do have one OPI silver holo that's kind of on the cusp between linear and scattered, but it's pretty glittery so I figured I'd save it for the scattered review. I love linear holo polishes! The only time it doesn't seem to work is some linear holo toppers can be too overwhelming and you only see the silver/holo not the base polish. Is there any you'd recommend? Edit:also I like the small particle size and the orange/copper colour from China glaze omg collection is one of my faves... Dries fast, nice rainbows.

I first bought linear silver holo polish way back in 2006. "OPI ds001/ DS Shimmer", their first designer color was probably one of the first on the market. Your Color Club "Harp on it" is almost identical to it.🤗

I was about to buy ILNP Mega (S), but from the looks of things, I don’t need to because they’re so similar. That means I can buy more ILNP in other colors, instead!

I just experienced the "disappearing pigment" as I did my current manicure! Make sure you shake the bottle so that the pigment doesn't clump up, and maybe hold the bottle in your fist a bit to warm it up before applying the polish. I have 6 polishes from A England and I do this before applying.

I was wondering if there are differences to top coats for holo polishes? Specifically, are there top coats that "enhance" the holoness or ones that dull it? Also, great video, I especially enjoy this kind of comparisons, much more in depth that what i can glean from browsing online! Thank you!

I'd say most top coats are neutral with holo polish! The only ones that might not work would be brands that aren't 3 free but honestly I can't think of any non-3 free brands offhand haha!

Matte top coats will dull the holo because they're blocking some of the light so the reflections can't happen as well. If its a holo that shows up well in indirect light then regular top coats don't make much difference (in my experience) but for some holo polishes they don't really shine their fullest until you use a coat or two of top coat, even in very direct light. My personal distinction between a "good" vs "bad" holo is if I can see it inside in low light conditions. If I can, then it goes on the good pile. If I can't then it goes on the bad/waste of money pile because I wear my nail polish for myself and I'm quite photosensitive so spend most of my time in lower light levels & 99.9% of my time is spent indoors too. Its the same approach I have with jewellery which is why diamonds fail miserably and cut crystals (like Swarovski) excel purely based on how much work I have to put in to see the sparkles and then compared to their cost. Lol

I think you might find a nice place in the Percy Jackson books. It’s slightly cheating because it takes place in our time it just follows the adventures of Demi gods from the Greek Roman and Egyptian pantheon, but that might be a nice compromise in what you’d be looking for. I’m always amused to hear color club described as a drugstore polish because I’ve never found it in drugstores here in New York. Maybe it’s because I frequent CVS more than others and it just doesn’t get sold in CVS, but I’ve only ever found it in Walmart

Honestly I don't think any of the top coats I've used have dulled out the holo shine! Back in the day when holo polishes were new, they could be dulled a bit but in the last 10 years or so it's evolved a lot!

It's always tricky to answer those "which fictional world would you live in" questions because I have so many clarifications I need first! Like if I live in the world of the Outlander series, do I get to be the one married to Jamie? Because if so, I would 100% put up with the dangers and lack of technology and whatnot, lol. If I'm in the world of the Marvel movies, do I live in a big city where aliens attack and villains go on rampages or am I living somewhere that's relatively unscathed by these heroic battles? These are important things I need to know before I commit to answering this question!! 😅

Kinda late to the game here but wanted to comment on the idea of living in a world from a book series and the response of a fantasy world but with modern technology. The books by Laurell K Hamilton, more specifically her Anita Blake series and her Meredith Gentry series, fit that description as her books are set in modern times with the premise that fantasy beings such as faeries, vampires, lycanthropes/shape shifters, etc, are legal citizens in the US. I've been a fan of her books since discovering them as a young adult at the end of the 90s. Her books aren't for everyone though as a lot of them tend to lean heavily into erotica territory, but the whole idea of living in a world where these kinds of beings exist still appeals to me even 25 years after first discovering her work.
