Maybe another way you could say this in terms of which fraction is greater is if for example you have 1/6 and 8/9. You could say that since 1/1 = 1, then 8/9 is approaching 9/9, which = 1. 1/6 is not approaching 6/6 as closely as 8/9 to 9/9, therefore 8/9 is greater.

How do you figure out the common denominator with a thing like: 3/4 6/9? Idk if that has a common denominator or not but you get my point, what if they don't?

I do is a butterfly method multiply 3 and 16 and multiply 13 and 8 then multiply 8 and 16 then you get your new fractions and then compare!

1/2 compared to 1/3 is the same as: 3/6 compared to 2/6. 1/2 is greater.

1/2 and 1/3 is simple. 2 x 3 = 6, do the reverse thing, and 1 x 3 = 3. While 1 x 2 = 2, 3/6 and 2/6 is greater than. The denominator is the same, and the numerator is different, so the answer is greater than.
