Schreiner needed a break. I hope Nick told him beforehand that it was going to be live.

Thanks for this - great interview! For me, a major building block in the case for the Reformed understanding is the account of the Council of Jerusalem in Acts 15. Here we read that at least some Jews DID equate circumcision with salvation (Acts 15 verse 1) and the Apostles respond in their letter by talking about salvation by grace. That's the Old Perspective loud and clear!

Dr. Tom Schreiner has been helpful in explaining that it is essential to believe that Jesus is the Messiah - the Anointed One.

Thank you for this. I have tried listening to Wright about his view but to me he talks in circles. This I understood. I have been trying to get a handle on this for quite awhile and this helped.

What role does "good works" play?: _Good works naturally follow our faith in Christ._

It seems the same criticism of a lack of urgency could be made against Dr. Schreiner’s view given that all the elect will repent and believe because of their individual election. Does that make sense? 46:44

It cannot be made, because no one knows, if he is elect, prior to conversion.

You're using the wrong adjectives - it's comparing the truth about Paul and the falsehoods about Paul. Ergo Sum = a huge waste of time - and the devil loves it when you waste your time on stuff like this.

At 30 mins in he is speaking on corporate and individual election. In that discussion he equivocates the term election. He freely accepts that corporate election is not about salvation but then infers salvation into individual election. Election is not about our salvation, it is God’s chosen people among whom some may be faithful to God’s covenant and others may not and each will be judged according to their deeds and loyalty. By this I mean that God will apply the saving work of Christ over those who are faithful and obedient to His commands showing loyalty and love to Him no matter the persecution, suffering or trials. Jesus has made the elect open to all who believe, saved by grace through faith, and once we are part of the elect God expects us to remain loyal to Him and do as he commands. When Paul speaks of works it is always in reference to works of the law and the false category of “general good deeds” didn’t exist then. Paul says there is no need to follow the law since Christ fulfilled the Law but that remaining loyal to God by following His commands is necessary. Your works play no part in what makes you righteous before God, that job of perfecting is found in the blood of Christ, but God does care that you “walk as He (Jesus) walked” 1 John 2. Your deeds are more than just evidence of something else, they are deliberate expressions of love and loyalty and all sin and failure is covered by the blood of Christ through faith and a repentant heart.
