I never could wrap my head around Redding. For handgun loading a could not understand how it would make any difference down range. For precision Rifle you are going to trickle anyway. So I could not see any advantage. For some it is collecting the best equipment. So by choosing Redding they feel they have done just that. This is fine. The one that kinda amazed everyone is the new Lyman thrower. By new I mean current. They seem to be a strong contender in hand throwing charges. Near the end of this video you commented about how it feels. Oddly this is probably worth the $$$. Our personal feel can make a difference over the many years you will use a powder measure. Your RCBS thrower museum pieces are a testament to how good they are. The value is strong. Their designs always seemed to work.

A friend of mine used to have a Palma Team member in his orbit and according to this fellow weighed charges are a waste of time if you have a quality powder measure. He loaded is ammunition by volume and was a better rifle shot than most of us will ever be. Many Light and Heavy class benchrest shooters load by volume as well. It's interesting to hear the opinions of these master level marksmen. Thanks for sharing Viejo! 🙏❤👍

Hi, Scholar. Thanks so much for that. Of course, not all powders meter the same. Some of the fluffier ones tend to throw less consistently, but we have ways to deal with those. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

Thanks for the review. I've never tried the Redding, having a RCBS Uniflow with both roters, and 2 Hornady, 1 for rifle and 1 for handgun for the LnL AP. I put baffles and micrometer adjustments. All have worked extremely well and accurate.

Good Morning Walter, Nice way to have coffee this morning. I don't want to cast negativity, however there is much to evaluate and consider when it comes to performance accuracy. and those factors are what I call consistency of randomness, and it has Zero to do with the conquest of throwing "Perfect" measured powder throws. I believe that people chase the idea of perfecting their loading of ammunition, thinking if I made it perfect, my marksmanship accuracy will be perfect (Same thing with firearms) If I buy perfection, perfection in my shooting will come. I once shot against and dude that loaded all his loadings for Bullseye pistol on a Lee Progressive 1000. he was master class and shot over 2.600 out of 2.700 every time. all with a lee sliding disc power measure. I tested a a Lee Pro 1000 against loading on my 550B, accuracy was the same between the two (Even out to fifty yards) they shot less than an inch an a half all out of a random rest and out shot Federal Gold Match 185 gr in group size. I believe that what we pay for is manufacturing craftmanship quality in the high end stuff, nice running presses and such. I have a Harrell powder measure, used it less than 10 times and it's been put away for over 20 years. I feel this was a great video and well done. peace - Dave

I love about any cast iron drum measure having a steel rotor I've tried. I personally only use small drums (large is only useful for considerably long stick powders IMO) my favorite of all time is the RCBS uniflow measures, but never turn down old obsolete measures made in the same fashion as they work just as well! I have an old Herter's (Wells) that I use for flake powders and it's as accurate and reliable as the uniflow with like powders. I lost the plungers and springs to my Herter's taking it apart to clean it once, but it never hurt the accuracy of it. I Like the old Lyman 55 for certain things like long sticks or very large throws, but certainly not for pistol charges and I got rid of their replacement brass smith measure because it has an aluminum drum and steel rotor which I felt would wear too much over time at the cutoff point, but others seem to love it.

I am using the redding with pistol chamber to charge 1.5 grains of N310 for my 32 bullseye gun. The measure is mounted solidly to the edge of my bench and have a 30 pound bag of bullets sitting right next to it to absorb vibrations. Feels solid, nice thunks. I do single tap up and down, thow at least 30 charges before starting each session, have a baffle 1/3 way up and keep the powder level in a tight window while charging. With all these considerations, i am getting 1.50 and 1.52 charges. That is less than a half of a tenth. Verified by the FX120i scale... Any thower needs to be mounted solid, no visible movements, and nice feeling thunks for each pull. And of course a consistent method of operating the handle

Great video, thanks for the comparison. I use the Hornady lock and load bench powder dispenser, the bodies where the drums slide in are very similar on the Redding and the RCBS to the Hornady`s. Like you , i mostly shoot revolvers, and stay between the minimum and maximum published charge weight to allow for a tenth or half a tenth fluctuation, and weigh every 5th to 10th case. Once again thanks for the video.

Nice test, I always liked the RCBS measure but the type of loading I seem to do doesn't justify a powder throw of any kind. Very small test batches usually less than 5 Rds., it's easier to just dip and trickle.

I didn't think you'd see much if any difference between the 2 measures . With my Hornady BR measure , one tap up and down is the most consistent. I've checked it many times. . The double taps make the throws less consistent. I call it the y tube double tap .

I suspected they would be pretty close. I as you, got a great deal on my Redding 10x. I had been wanting one for a while. I previously had gotten an RCBS Chargemaster Link digital powder dispenser and have checked them all against a digital scale and against the 10/10 Balance. There is so little differentiation that I am comfortable using either. I can tell you one thing you never want to do. Don't disassemble the metering chamber! If you do get ready to send it back to Redding for reassembly! My 10x came with both chambers but the rifle chamber seemed to need cleaning. I wish I had known not to take that thing apart. I called Redding and asked them how to get it back together and they said start with a cardboard box and a mailing label to send it back to them! They were right!. They have a jig made to assemble them and you can practically not do it without it! They didn't charge me a penny and I had it back in about 10 days. Can't beat Redding customer service, they are great!
