This is fantastic! Would you perhaps be able to post the full answer you have to this question somewhere? Would love to see more videos like these as there aren't many recources out there for English Lang/Lit on edexcel. Thanks again!

Hi! I do edexcel LL, and I've always struggled with knowing how much to write based on the marks for the question, since it isn't like chemistry where I can objectively say what I can get a mark for. How can I know if I've written too much, too little, etc based on 25,30, etc mark essay questions?

The length isn't as important as the quality of writing, I have seen students get a B grade with 2-2.5 pages of excellent analysis. However, if you are aiming for an A/A* they are looking for you to have 'sustained' and 'discriminating' examples which means would need probably 4/5 pages.

Hi ,I am confused with whether I am expected to compare the representations ,or the language used ,or both. What I mean is for example I will say two texts have different representations and use evidence for each ,but it is not always the same linguistic feature eg pronouns for both pieces of evidence and therefore they aren't comparable? Thanks

From what I understand of your explanation you need to compare both. It's great if you can find the same or similar techniques used in two texts and think about the different ways or reasons they've been used, but this isn't always possible. Therefore, It's also fair to compare different techniques and the feelings they convey or purposes they have, just as long as you are still making connections across the texts.

Could you tell me how long the entire answer should be?

It depends slightly on the different exams boards, but usually I would say the A*-B answers are around 4-5 sides of writing.
