Comparing the new $100 US dollar (Oct 2013) with the old $100 bill.

Disclaimer: Boring video of me comparing the old US $100 bill with the new one.
The new $100 US dollar bill was released in early October 2013.

I'm not a rich guy.. it just happened my aunt wanted to pay me back for a desktop computer I recently got her. I think I posted a video of this computer.. an i3 lenovo outlet refurb which I got for around $200.
Anyways.. the new $100 bill looks like kids money (ie monopoly money) or it looks more like international money.
Some differences:
1) There is a blue strip right through the center of the new bill.
2) There is a light green or blue tint on the new 100 dollar bill.
3) There is still a hidden strip of text which says "100 USA" repeatedly.
4) There is 100 in yellow written on the front and back of the $100 bill
5) Like the old $100 bill there is a slightly hidden picture of benjamin franklin that you can see if you slightly tilt the bill.
6) On the right of one side is a pen and a writing of the declaration of independence
7) On the side that includes a picture of the Independence Hall, the picture is different from the old $100 bill.
8) The $100 bill I have says that it is a series A 2009 bill. This is strange,.. I wonder what 2009 refers to. Is it the model... or does it mean it was made in 2009...but finally released in 2013
9) The text for the new bill is larger and easier to read. On the side with the independence hall... there is a big 100 written vertically.
There are a bunch of other difference which I didn't notice. Even though the new $100 looks like toy money... it is definitely harder to counterfeit.

For international travel... I think counterfeit issues were a big problem since they didn't have color markers on it. I recall going to vietnam in 2000 and they were super strict about getting totally new $100 bills. Yes..it does look better with the add ons. Now if they would do that for the other bills??? Then again.. everything is going to digital.

Note however, that it would be somewhat foolish to spend a very rare or very old bill or coin, as it would almost certainly actually be worth much more than its face value (to collectors).

Today is June 7, 2020. Just got 2 pieces of older $100 bills from a French old man. I am stranded in Sri Lanka due to Coronavirus pandemic. Banks in Sri Lanka are not accepting the old bills.

* United States - 100 dollar bills have no expiratioin * Outside of United States - It's possible most private businesses won't accept old bills. Same with banks. I recall goint to vietnam 20 years ago,.. they were so picky about american currency... if it looked old and crumpled they wouldn't trade it in.

If it's official. It will be accepted at banks. If you live outside United States that's tricky. Most shops and non banks probably won't take them. If you take to a big bank they should accept it.

Yes in America. Probably not overseas in south east Asia. Usually in America they will mark it with a pen to see if it stains correctly. But I know overseas they are picky

You overlooked the one obvious difference and that is the colour of the note. It is more like a blue rather than a green.

Thanks. that's a good point. blue vs green. Slowly but steadily.. the blue 100 is taking over. Glad we have it since counterfeiting is a big problem both stateside and overseas.

@@aleksdude Yes, the reason they introduced the new $100 note is specifically to combat counterfeiting. The blue hologram stripe is particularly hard to replicate. All bills are removed out of circulation after a number of years and replaced by new ones. So eventually green hundreds will be no more. This will actually make them a rare collectors item.

People with all their cash might be scared as the robbers and theives would know that people have to hide their cash somewhere. +Faisal Howaish Oh no. In United States, all US 100 dollar bills are still useable. I understand the concern because I know internationally.. whenever united states citizens travel to other countries, they want NEW $100 bills. But if people use $100 dollar bills in united states, we are not strict at all. They will verifiy if the $100 is real using either ink method or look for other methods that reveal the OLDER $100 is real.
