Comparison between Kowa PROMINAR TSN-99/88 and the brand new TSN-66 spotting scopes

What a great comparison of the great Kowa spotting scopes. I would add that if you use the scope for bird migration looking high and low, the FOV and the difference from 99 to 88/66 becomes quite tangible. I went with the 99A soon after its release, to knock of my older trusted 883 that I just couldn't sell. But the fact is I should have held my horses and gone for the 88A a year later since it is truly a masterpiece. A month ago at Falsterbo Bird Show I had the pleasure of comparing all three side by side for days, and 88 is just awesome. Maybe it is the XD in front of the pure flourite in the 99 that is holding it back a little?

I have the Kowa TSN-99 Spottingscope with the TE-11WZ II 30-70 zoom eyepiece and the excellent TE-80XW 40x eyepiece, this Spottingscope is the very best you can get today ! I have used Spottingscopes since 1987 and I have tried a lot of different Spottingscopes through those years. The TSN-99 will be my laste Spottingscope. When I bought it I compared it very close to the Zeiss Victory Harpia 95, optically the two are very close, about the same, but to the Kowa is much easier to use.

I've seen many that use Kowa scopes opting for the 88 over the 99. For some reason, they are getting better photos when phonescoping. Not say the 99 isn't excellent.

I’m torn between the 88A and the 66A not sure what differences there are. Not been able to find somewhere to compare them. Is the FOV massively different ?

I wonder as Kowa are making 99mm FL optics, could we see them in a binocular in the future?

They have no plans to update the Highlander. Guy who makes brackets to make big eyes told me the 99 is too big to make binoculars. It can be done, just would require a fancy prism ocular set up VS strapping two scopes together.
