Comparison Kurzweil Artis vs Kurzweil PC3K

The PC3K was turned up louder, but there was some warmth to it that was missing in the Artis. That New piano, in the Artis is Excellent though!

The differences in the sound of these two instruments can be attributed to slight differences in the settings of the filters and volume envelopes of what are likely the identical sample files. I tend to like the PC3K.

I have uploaded sounds with with PC3K based on VAST synthesis, which did not use the keymap and Artis read them. SP5 also does not have a VAST, but with an editor, you can create Voice.

The top keyboard has reverb, the bottom doesn't. Need turn off the reverb on top unit for an accurate comparison.

The PC3K has a warmer tonal quality. The Artis has a slightly, brighter, tonal quality to it. The both of them are quality. It depends on your preference. I like the Nord rhodes sound better than both of them but I like Kurzweil's strings above any synth, any day - period.

I agree that the levels should be the same. The PC3 is a bit louder and a bit more upfront in the mix. However, I still think the PC3 is warmer and fatter sounding. Not by much I grant you. But I would go with the PC3.

I think the reason for one particular difference in sound is very logical. The patches from the Artis often seem to be less wide (as in: a narrower stereo image) which to me seems like a smart choice in an instrument which is primarily a stage piano. After all: often it will just be DI'ed into a mixing console, panned L-R, and at the mercy of an anonymous mixing technician. The Artis' narrower sound would definitely have a better chance of sounding fine in this type of ad hoc mix.

Artis PIANO has level of 9-touch and PC3K without GERMAN GRAND D has only 3-touch (like Nord).

Well Artis has GERMAN GRAND D as Basis but this is also for PC3K8 as an additional extension still available, isn't it?

For a lot of the sounds like woodwinds, brass, percussion, analog emulation, and other synth sounds I would expect the PC3K to be better (which it is). Essentially the new Artis is a stage piano and where it holds its ground is with pianos, electric keys, organs, pads, etc. It probably doesn't have the filters the PC3K has, but it's not bad and really darn close. Compared to the Roland RD700NX and the Yamaha S90XS I actually prefer the Kurzweil Artis. They are very close in comparison.

"Faghen Phaser" on ARTIS is one of the best e-piano sound comparing any keyboard. all other sounds in artis are lower level than Forte or Pc3K... I can also tell that in ARTIS the little loss of bass frequency and wide sound is easily compensable with the left EQ in real time and adding a little stereo chorus effect.

If the Artis is about the same price as a Kurzweil PC3K I'd go for the PC3K, 4 times as many sound patches and you can edit them.

You know what's sad? Closing my eyes, I honestly didn't recognized almost any differences between the two first concert piano...I love kurzweil and Im proud to own a K2600XS and a PC3K6, but, this new german piano doesn't sound so much better than the PC3K6's one.

elvc reduced polyphony, very limited sound editing, no sampling, much less fx capability, no sliders but added touch sensitive pads, less audio output, no ribbon input, same kurzweil style interface

compare 256 sounds vs over 1000 ... compare being able to sample in new wav or AIFF files for sound creation vs cant on the artist ... there is no comparing ... the few sounds the artist has are the same as the pc3k ...and they have the same effects but you cant edit the artist

Why that guy compares these 2 products...???They are totaly different..PC3K is a completed synthesizer workstation,the top (in my opinion) workstation in the whole market of keyboards,while Artis is more like stage piano with many sounds !!PC3K has sampler ,the whole VAST engine and many mastering eq'ing cappabilities..Artis would be perfect for gigs because it has many sounds and nice FX chains(presets) but PC3K is a MONSTER on EDITING EVERYTHING !! So its a pointless comparison!!

Artis has an editor. It is possible to edit, the same as in PC3. We compared the sound, because it's very similar machines presenting the same sound. Artis has Kore 64, all multisamples.

You can't say that... Artis is just more a "stage piano" and PC3 a workstation. For example the keybed (fatar TP/100LR) seems more like a real piano and PC3's Fatar TP/40LR for multiple uses (piano, organ, synths). Artis has German D and some KORE64 sounds PC3K has not.

​Mam Artis 7, robię co mogę EQ i drawbars i nigdy nie brzmi dość dobrze na nagłośnieniu. Ten i inne testy są słuchawkowe. Jest coś nie tak u Artisa na nagłośnieniu zewnętrznym jeśli chodzi o fortepiany - jakieś plastikowe , nierówne brzmienie nie pozwalające na radość grania. Co mogę zrobić, by na nagłośnieniu było lepiej ?

Eduardo Santos Sound Editor software and a laptop solves the absence of on-board VAST. All the editing I've ever had to do on my old PC3 is as simple as opening the software, connecting to my Artis via USB and making my changes and saving them to the keyboard. I gig regularly and the loss of some 12 lbs and a form factor that allows the Artis 7 to fit sideways in my trunk makes this the perfect board for me. Plus it saved and provides all my saved PC3 sounds that I ported via flash drive.

Both digital crap. The best digital keyboard is no better than the stock plug ins on a DAW. Why would you spend thousands on what is simply a computer with a midi keyboard? You can get a laptop and a nice midi keyboard for a few hundred and have much more flexibility and endless sounds.

"Why would you spend thousands on what is simply a computer with a midi keyboard?" - sadly, it isnt, period! Is MacPro computer as my beloved C64? Yes! Does my C64 can produce music with ProTools - No! When you have Keyboard like this, you sit down and play. No drivers, no sample loading, no annoying popups begging to Update, only pure sound and control. i dare you go out in the wild and PLAY a gig with your laptop and midi keyboard. To get this quality sounds you need to spend thousads of $ for VST instruments, nice midi keyboard from 500-1500$ . Not to mention, build quality of these things, like Hellcat tanks! MIDI control, you name it, Kurzweil is one of the best for midi control, i have always 3 modules attached to it! Ask anything if you like i will help you, maybe my first comment was to hard.

***** BULLSHIT. Seriously, I have played a virus, and lots of other VA. Actually the microkorg sounds more analog than the virus, both both not close to real analog. Just look at doepfer modular stuff, moog sub phatty, vintage ARP, all are way better than ANY digital synth. I have an original minimoog, trust me, once you go analog, you never even glance back. The sound is just so much richer and euphonic. It is NOT subtle.
