Hmm I literally just played through the Gamecube version like a day ago, I think the Xbox version looks the best overall in this comparison as the textures seem the most consistent and clear and I like the lighting and colors better than PS2 and GCN. Still a masterpiece on any console though.

You know that doesn't mean the game actually fills the entire 4.7GB, right? The actual difference is like 300MB, which is why some textures look worse on GC

They all differ somewhat. Sometimes the PS2 version looks better, sometimes the GameCube version looks better, and sometimes the Xbox version looks better. At 3:39, we can see that the GameCube and Xbox versions have some transparency that the PS2 version lacks. At 6:10, the texture resolution in the GameCube version looks noticeably lower than the other versions. At 7:37, the grass looks better on the Xbox. At 8:35, Spidey's shadow is missing in the PS2 and Xbox versions. I think Xbox has a slight edge here overall, but all three versions look reasonably good. You couldn't go wrong with either version in 2004, and you can't go wrong with either version now in 2022.

Its funny, at some points the ps2 seems the worst but then it also has some features the xbox has that the gamecube does not like more shadows and higher resolution textures. All 3 versions look fun though.

1st. Xbox The Xbox has the best textures, shadows, and character models compared to the PS2 and Gamecube. For instance the grass isn't just a bundled green mush texture, it is actually raised like real grass (see 7:36). Spidey's suit has great lighting on the webbing (pause@ 8:52), and the shades in the textures look far superior than the PS2 and Gamecube (6:13 is a perfect example lol). The windows and water look way more realistic than the other two also (7:11). For instance the windows shine more even from a distance. (see 1:12) 2nd. PS2 The PS2's textures and shadows are a step greater than the Gamecube's (6:13 again, Jamesons' eyes have better depth than the Gamecube's but still can't reach the Xbox's) The lighting and especially the colors, look cloudy and washed out. It's the only version that makes the red in Spidey's suit look like it is a pinkish color (pause@ 2:00 & it looks noticeably pinker) I do like the shadows, they are almost as good as Xbox's, but lighting isn't (see 7:01 and look at shadows in between buildings, Gamecube has none) My biggest complaint will always be how Spidey looks pink and the washed out colors. 3rd. Gamecube The Gamecube sadly has the worst looking textures, shadows, and character models due to the specs of the system (especially disc drive!). The lighting is way better than the PS2's for sure, (see 3:04 and compare the streetlight's lighting effect) The draw distance has always been utter crap though, lol. From playing this version I've noticed trees and buildings change from low res to higher res textures many times because of bad rendering. When watching though, I was confused to see how long that saving took on the Gamecube. It only takes under 5 seconds to save on my Gamecube....O_O One thing that always stood out to me about the Gamecube version is Spidey's suit. It has this noticeable glossyness, especially on his legs (pause@ 2:02) Lot's of the models look glossy, which makes sense because the Gamecube's discs could barely hold 2GB's of data. Textures are pretty sad, the health bar looks like mushed pixels. This opinion is unbiased! I grew up on the Xbox and Gamecube versions of Spidey 2, but my Xbox disc for the game was basically unplayable because it was very scratched, so I mostly played the Gamecube version. The game was still beatable on my Xbox, but at random times I would freeze in the air because the game wouldn't load the next area due to the disc being scratched... But as a fan of all three systems PS2 because of Kingdom Hearts and exclusives, Nintendo because of my childhood favs' Zelda & Smash bros, and Xbox because of my childhood and it's superior graphics. So for sure after all I've said I'd say that Xbox has the best graphics.... Literally almost always Xbox wins in console comparison of graphics, with Playstation almost always having washy or bright textures/lighting, and Nintendo focusing solely on gameplay and family gaming. (DIFFERENT SUBJECT) Since the early 2000s Nintendo stopped worrying about graphics and focused on games. I applaud them and get frustrated at them for this. Like the Xbox 360 and PS3 could run 1080p and the Wii only 480p. It would've been amazing to play Wii in 1080p just saying!

Its not surprising. Gamecube is stronger than PS2, people just grew up believing it wasn't because of " kiddie console. " Most games in general just looked better on Gamecube or ran smoother in terms of frame rate. Resident Evil 4, Spiderman 1 and 2, MK Deception, Viewtiful Joe, the list goes on. The PS2 was cool because it had almost every game on it, and it had many games GC and Xbox didn't have, so it was fine that PS2 had the worst version of some games.

Nope. Video games mostly had bad dialogue . Only big titles like GTA games and halo and etc had good voice acting. One game I can think of is Silent hill 4. Henry the main protagonist voice is actually atrocious. And back then I didn't think it sounded that bad until I seen a playthrough recently. Around like the late 2000s early 2010s is when voice acting in video games picked up.

In the movie he only needed them when he lost his powers since, he stopped wearing the initially because the spider powers fixed his eye sight. But in the game he never loses his powers so, it doesn't make any sense to wear them. Unless they were making it a Superman refrence, but the mask covers Peter's whole head so...

GameCube was, the reason Xbox looks better than GameCube but GameCube looks better than PS1 is because GameCube had a Size limit on discs which made it barley surpass PS2 but Xbox was powerful enough to cut closer to GameCube but the disc size limit restricted GameCube from looking better than Xbox. In Raw power, GameCube curbstomps PS2 and Xbox.

Fabricio M Vega DID YOU READ WHAT I SAID FOR GOD'S SAKE? If the Xbox ran it, GameCube could run it too, and better, if Nintendo decided to use full size instead of mini-discs. The reason games skipped out on the GameCube, even when it WAS selling well, was because it didn't use full size discs, making it harder to compress games as it went further into it's lifecycle. The hardware itself could run it because of it's GPU clock speed advantage over the Xbox. Do your OWN research and learn specs, man.

It's literally crazy how some things look better and worse on the different consoles. Seems like character models look best on PS2, and yet somehow, textures look better on both Xbox and Gamecube. Overall, what would you guys say is the definitive version here, all things considered? I think best of all, it plays great on Dolphin. 4K is easy. Not the case for PCSX2, so I guess I'd lean gamecube here IMO. In original form, possibly Xbox. Check out grass quality, things like that. Just a bit more immersive.

definitely xbox is better, not only visually since the better quality textures and the better lighting and reflections are better on that system, but for the performance itself, on xbox in the moments of more action or where there is more load of polygons how when going through the city the framerate of the game is much more stable In gamecube the frame can drop a lot, it is not unplayable but it is quite noticeable also in xbox the drawing distance is greater compared to ps2 or gamecube

@@XtremeConditions For all practical considerations, the Xbox is the most powerful of the three and it shows here. The PS2 and GC versions could actually look better if the devs really wanted to put the time into it. The LOD gives you some clues as to what may be going on. It almost seems that the GC version isn't optimized to use it's various memory systems based on the often late load in time of geometry and textures.

Keep the PC and have just one console that has the most exclusives or the best versions of console-only multi-plats, such as a PS4 or PS5. Xbox is no longer worth having if you have a decent enough PC, but if upgrading the gpu is more expensive than buying a Series X for example, you can go with that and will still have a great experience.

Growing up I played the PS2 and Gamecube versions, and for some reason I remembered the PS2 looking better? Looking at the cutscenes makes me reconsider that since the textures on the PS2 version look bad, the Gamecube textures look better, and the Xbox perfects them. Looking at gameplay, I literally can't tell the difference. It's so bizarre One thing I'm more interested in is how the framerate is one actual hardware

While it's obvious that the Xbox version is the winner overall. When comes to comparing the PS2 and GameCube versions, it's complicatedly debatable.... I saw A LOT of back and forth variation between the two. Some textures, polygons & lighting effects of certain areas and models, look better on the GameCube, while others look better on the PS2. And images taken from the real world (like those on the billboards) look better on the PS2. Hard to say why this strange variation exists, but it's likely to due with the fact that the GC has more powerful hardware but it uses small discs that hold less data. While the PS2 has less powerful hardware but it uses DVDs which can hold more uncompressed data. Which in some cases probably compensates for less powerful hardware. While the Xbox both uses DVDs and has more powerful hardware than either the PS2 or the GC. Edit: Another thing to mention is that there is a bit of a blurriness in the GC version, which is not present in the PS2 version. This is especially noticeable with distant objects, which appear FAR clearer in the PS2 version. (that bad pun was, at first, unintended... xD)

If the GC is "much more powerful" how come the draw distance for traffic is so limited and why is Spidey's shadowing of such poor quality (when it isn't missing entirely)? Clearly these are signs of cutting down on details because the GC can't cope with processing as much geometry as the PS2, and I haven't even mentioned the aggressive LOD on the GC version yet.

No. The gap between them isn't great enough to justify that statement. I'm an owner of both (and more) consoles and based on my impression of most of the technically impressive PS2 + GC games they are fairly close performance-wise, with the GC doing some things better/more easily than the PS2 and vice versa.

@@Banzeken Oh I agree, they both have their strengths. To be fair though, if the gamecube had full sized discs I don't think any of us would consider the ps2 **as close** to the GC.

The LOD pop-in for trees and cars is terrible in the Gamecube version and the projected shadow for Spiderman in the PS2 and Xbox versions is either completely gone or a much cheaper and less impressive replacement. Disc space obviously makes some texture work look horribly compressed and most scenes lack any kind of lightmaps (look at street after 8:00) which gives the impression of constant overcast which looks depressing and outdated.

The GameCube looks the best during game play, but falls short when it comes to cut-scenes. That is where he Xbox does better. PS2 doesn't visually look good on either, but I prefer the DualShock 2 controller over the Xbox and GameCube.

Its an open world game. What do you expect? Its very demanding running a game like this at 60 fps. The first spiderman game on 6th gen was 60 fps on xbox and gamecube, but was unstable, so i suppose that the devs had to choose from 60 to 30 for more stable performance, specially for the hard to program and underpowered ps2

X box version had more reflections and details.The gamecube version looked good but with less effects. The playstation 2 as usual looks all blurry , with screen tearing , and it looked like even some fog?

RangelArts lol no bro, there was better at the time. For example when I first played Batman Begins his cape was visually very good and games like Tony Hawks underground 1 and 2 had good animations on/of the faces. These faces in spider man 2 was quite bad actually, very similar to what Minority Report looked like xD all of this I played on the GameCube I love that console

I still like the web swinging better. I the control both arms was and still is amazing. Also jumping off of the Empire State Building is still more thrilling maybe it’s because if you don’t save yourself you can die. In the new one you can’t take fall damage.
