One thing I like that LZ does before his runs is he talks to himself about random things like what he’s in the mood to eat or what silly thing he would buy if he took home 1st place, etc. Getting your mind off the pressure and just nailing the course

@cd5sircoupe
@cd5sircoupe 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah LZ might have that "ritual" or whatever, but he's horrible at pressure management/controlling his anxiety in comp. The only time that's benefited him so far was that one recent round of Klutch Kickers. He's choked at like, almost every round of FD in his short career. And before any nut gobblers get in here, yeah there were quite a few rounds where he was dealing with more mechanical issues than psychological ones. That still doesn't excuse the fact that he's choked under pressure more times than he's taken home a win by a wide margin. As an aside, I'm not saying I'm a better driver than any of these professionals. I'm calling it like I see it.
@Havok412

@@cd5sircoupe Well then it might help Summit. Can't hurt to try and maybe he won't choke in quali due to nerves. Adam choking in FD makes sense compared to how he is in other events that aren't as "serious" even though I think those events are the better ones.
@cd5sircoupe
@cd5sircoupe 2 жыл бұрын
@@Havok412 Summit's a multi-billion dollar mega conglomerate but that's besides the point, I know it auto corrected Sammit on your end. I kid, I kid... If Sam really wants to get that stuff under control I'd say don't rely on doing what LZ's been doing since there's no concrete evidence/proof that it's done him any good aside from that one KK win and I don't even remember if he was doing the thing that guy was talking about in that event. If Sam's truly serious he'll do his due diligence & research stress management techniques on his own accord (like he said he would) to find something that works for him.
@Havok412
@Havok412 2 жыл бұрын
@@cd5sircoupe Lol yeah I meant Sammit. I think maybe forget about LZ that method is a real method to work on your nerves. LZ didn't invent it a lot of people do this to avoid overthinking which is why I said it might help Sammit even though on paper it doesn't seem to help LZ in FD.

Hey Sam! I've been a violinist since I was 5yo and one thing I learned throughout the years while being on stage is know where you want to go next until it ends, enjoying the process of going on stage and doing what you need to do. Imagine you are watching yourself from an outside point. The nerves don't go away you just learn to negotiate with it, balance between fear and excitement. Love your videos!

One thing that has help me in competition is visualization. When you’re sitting in line getting ready to go close your eyes block out all the distractions and just visualize what kinda of run your going’s to do and how you’re going to execute it. It doesn’t matter how many practice laps you have or how well you know the track if you’re not thinking about what and how your going to do something right before you do it muscle memory starts to take over and that’s when those bad habits you’ve been practicing not to do is what you end up doings when it counts

Hey Sam, to extend on what Fausto said: remember to have fun. Don't let the entire comp mood push you into tunnel vision, where you start trying to be overly precise or anything like that and end up making mistakes through the pressure you put on yourself. Getting more precise is stuff you gonna figure out in future practice runs. And as Fausto said 'try to just focus on yourself and treat the runs like any other solo run' and thus enjoy the ride and let the muscle memory lead the flow of your run. You've got tons of practice already done and even the judge told you that beside the mistake the run was darn solid. There is no need to try pushing beyond your current limits in comp when you're already at a high level, just relax and see where it gets you as you try to tackle the comp runs like normal ones. Even if mistakes happen it does not mean the end of the world and I'm sure you're able to recover and improve further from that since you already can tell what went wrong. No need for pressure, enjoy the ride champ! :)

I would say prior to staging up on the line, take deep breaths 4 seconds inhale, 4 seconds exhale, and focus on the sound of ur breaths, it's easier to hear ur breaths with ear plugs of any kind in while doing the excersize. I do this before every drag racing event I participate in, it helps me calm my whole body down by atleast 50% I used to get just like you before any race day from small to big events cus I was so eager to just get out on the track and do my best. but u got this Sammit 💪🏽😈

This happens in all sort of competitions, the time before you put on your performance is the real battle. That's when you put everything in perspective, and those doubts start seeping in, and that comment you read a week ago comes back out of the blue, and when your mind really starts to win. Competitors in every sport deal with that and the ones who are at the top of their class are the ones who've learned to conquer that. It is hard when you have a lot at stake but you cant think that you lose it all if you lose a comp or a match because at that point you've already lost.

Sam, the time you spend waiting is your opportunity to get your mind ready for the competition. First, breathe! One deep cleansing breath, followed by another. clear your mind of everything. You know the course. You know what to do. Just clear your mind and do it. Don't let the distractions end your run before you start. Practice with Fausto more. You have the skills like he said. You just have to win the mind game.

I don't know if it would help you at all but maybe try and remind yourself in line first run that there is always another run, another day, another event, another weekend. That first run is not the end all be all. You made it there for a reason and you drive a TON more than anyone else I watch. If anyone is qualified and skilled enough it's you brother. You've got more seat time than anyone I can think of. Just remind yourself that you KNOW what your doing and yes we always need practice on that track and that day's conditions but as far as the drifting.......as Han told Sean in Tokyo drift.......JUST FEEL IT. YOU GOT THIS SAM!!!!

Very competitive hockey player here, what helped in major events and big games that were super important was always believing in myself and talking to myself telling me how good I was and how I prepared for moments like this. I would meditate for 5 minutes before we went out on the ice. I’d also visualize myself doing good in my head. It really helps calm your mind down and enter that “competitive mode”

Like you said, it’s mind set. Idk whether you are over thinking or doubting yourself or it’s something different, but again like you said focus. You know you have the skills, you know you have the tools, you have the support. Focus on that and drive like you would any other time and shred, have fun. Create a mantra for yourself or some music or a ritual, something to relax you and have your focus in the right place on the right things. You got this Sam you’re an amazing driver and it’s only up from here my man!

It's really awesome that the judging is so transparent like that! I know when I'm nervous like that waiting for a run in drift or drag, or if I'm nervous for an interview or something I try and watch a video or play a game. Something completely random and different from what I'm about to do. I already know how to do what's coming next. That needs to happen by instinct so I don't want to think about it until I'm actually in the moment and doing it.

There’s a psychology trick where essentially your brain can only focus on so many things at once so, breathe in while counting to 3 and breathe out while counting to 7 while focusing on 2 things on either end of your peripheral vision, and moving your hands. Do this whenever you’re not doing something in line like moving the car and your brain simply won’t have the ability to worry about it

Hey Sammit I want to congratulate you For your 1st steps On your division It takes a lot of courage to do that. I am not a drifter but I do circuit racing and time attack in PR. I'm still an amateur but Meditation is good way to start you need to start take control on your mind and impulse. Once you're in the track you feel nervous you feel doubting yourself in your ability Of what you can do better If you start thinking like that Close your eyes breathe slowly try to listen to your heart And slowly tell him that you must be in control once you start feeling that your heart beat is slowing down Open your eyes and concentrate on your task Don't think Just feel the drive and Execute. At least that's what helped me when I'm in the track. Keep doing the good work 😊. From A fellow driver and follower from Puerto Rico😁😁

Make a sticker bomb card for your dash with the pictures of all the wifus from your favorite anime. Now you name the curves on the drift course for a body part of each wifu, like the first turn is Emilia's left bell bottom jean curve, and the second is Rem's right squishy strawberry top. Then you take a marker and you draw a curving line from body part to body part until you have the entire track represented in the body parts of your wifus. Now when you practice, you feel the curve and pay attention to it as you ride over and cross their body part, you sample the tenderness and rigid support it gives your car, and how to just treat that curve just right, because you wouldn't disrespect you wifu. Now the competition fades to nothing when you drive. Its just you and your wifus on that sticker bomb cards, as you cross from one to the other and feel those curves.

You need to get in to that it doesn’t matter zone on the line. Thinking it’s a competition it gets the adrenaline running and your body goes in to self preservation mode, and it’s making decisions for you. Just getting in to the calm and it’s another day at the office mindset is the key. Nothing beats the competition experience, no amount of training is worth the competition experience. That is what you need, you got the skills to drive.

It's awesome that you are even competing, that in itself is a big accomplishment. Set up some small drift sessions with clipping points and just run it back over and over again as much as you can. Like how you keep trying to do reverse entries on that one course. You kept doing it over and over again until you got it and now you can do it on command. You can maybe jam to some music before your runs or just scream out right before they give you the green to go. I always seen a lot of pro drivers with ear buds listening to something before their race. Ha. Like any sport, Practice one thing until you got it then add to it. 1st entries, then entries and a 2nd clipping point, and so on. Just blabbering but rooting for ya! Can't wait to see you during the live streams of FDJ =)

You can do it sam. Maybe some pushups will help soothe the nerves. Glad to see fausto being there as a big bro offering advise on the mental aspects and technicalities of the course layout

Visualization, and be aware of your heartbeat and breathing while you are resting and racing. If you can control your heartbeat and breathing to the right tempo you'll stay come and focus. The hard thing is to find the right tempo to help you perform. Each track is different so you need to breathe differently to get to the right tempo. It's all about adapting to the situation with different style of breathing. I see a lot of racers do this. And I learn this through climbing because we always have to learn to adapt to different situation and environment

Hey Sam, I really recommend seeing a sports psychologist if pre competition anxiety keeps bothering you. I run in college and a lot of my teammates and myself included have had success seeing one to help us deal with our pre race anxiety and nerves.
