good stuff Myles. for dot shooters, another thing to mention is that different draw strokes may impact how fast you're able to acquire the red dot.

That’s right. Red dot shooters may use different techniques to see the dot sooner.

Do I need to bring the gun to center of the body after the draw like a lot of instructors show? I do not mean high on the chest, but in the in the middle of the trajectory. It is clear that it is faster to bring the gun direct to the aim ?

Great points! When practicing from concealed AIWB, it seems to only have the tactical option anyway because of the natural draw stroke.

How about that crazy holsters?! Does it only hold the trigger guard?

They make a lot of holsters like that. I have one made by Double Alpha Academy, they make holsters and mag pouches and belts for competitions. The holster I have is called the Alpha X, and it has different insert blocks to use it with different guns. I have a block for my CZ TS2 and my CZ Czechmate. Those "race holsters" are pretty expensive. The whole assembly with one insert block for my Alpha X cost $250 and the new block cost another $50.

Very interesting. I am a self-defense shooter and was always told not to do the "bowling ball" technique. Thnx.

It can look similar but there is a slight difference between the two. One travels in a straight 45-degree line while the other is more like a arching, bowling motion.

They used to call the L as the American way and the diagonal the Filipino draw in the competition world. I believe Jerry Miculek also made mention of it before. Either or is great but I wouldn’t like the fishing or bowling methods. It’s great to do both but I like the diagonal as you can already shoot right outside the holster from the hip at a compressed retention. The diagonal extension is nice because it’s quicker as long as extension is a luxury I can afford. The diagonal still allows for relatively shooting as you extend since your support thumb can be an aiming device.

As a Pilipino I just draw my pistol that way (45 degree) when I started competition shooting in the early late 80's. It was only recently when I saw Jerry's video illustrating it as a "Filipino" style.

The pistol presentation on the L pathway occurs by practical considerations. In competition shooting, the pistol holster is an open type. In law enforcement, the holster is of the closed type, and sometimes with active retention, positioned higher on the belt. Therefore the gun is extended until is completed out under the armpit. Then, from the chest level, we push the gun foreword, to meet the non-dominant hand. It is a methodology, and nothing can be left to chance. Another example is that we remove the empty magazine with the non-dominant hand. Should not simply let it fall..., maybe it falls, maybe not. We don't have a second chance. There are many other aspects, also. Leaving personal considerations aside and excluding weapon manipulation, the two techniques, are distinct. Thank you.

The straight line is slower overall because you will be delayed looking for the sight when it gets to full extension. The guy in the video took a long time to shoot when he should have picked up the sight and shot as soon as his arms extended (doing the "tactical" method).
@TacticalHyve
@TacticalHyve 2 жыл бұрын
That’s what some might think but not in practice. We can’t recall the videos, but that statement has been proven incorrect by others already. Also, if you ever put tactical style shooters who use the ‘tactical’ draw against a sport shooter in a draw to first shot contest, pay attention to the tactical style draw. It starts turning into more of a straight line because the “L” is slower.
@TheOtherVenkman
@TheOtherVenkman 2 жыл бұрын
Completely incorrect. Gun is taking longer to travel making for a slower time. The "competition" draw is no different than pointing your finger at the target, just with a gun. Get some legitimate training and you'll see.

@@TacticalHyve I created a friendly video response to explain what I am talking about. I did an analysis of the shooter in the video and also demonstrated with some of my own footage - not as a direct comparison, the intention is just to assist in my explanation. Thanks!
