First scenario would be a lot easier, when you cut the 8 on the left and try to hide the cueball as close as possible behind the 9, instead of the 8. This way you have to worry only about one ball instead of two. The 8 has just to pass both, cueball and 9, down the table. It can land literally anywhere and it's still a perfect save. And, in case you bank the 8 accidentally, you will have a good position near the 9, either to pot it or to play save again, if necessary.
