Not really. They add another level of complexity and balances out a lot of other character's weaknesses. More viable characters make for a more diverse meta and more of a challenge for pro players to adapt to a changing landscape.

Funny thing about Big Blue is that it's actually worse for low tiers because they all have slow jump speed. Spacies and Cap may fall fast, but they also jump fast, and for Fox/Cap run fast too. Protip: Cap + Bunny Hood + Mushroom = He can outrun the cars.

If "professional" players can calculate the reach of Marth's sword attacks in pixels and predict when Randall comes out, surely they can manage... Getting out of the way for a car (with a large warning sign on display) in Onett. Jumping up when lava rises on Brinstar. Track barrel movement in Kongo Jungle (Both Melee and 64). Avoid giant-ass bullet bills on Peach's Castle. Manage breaking blocks on Yoshi's Island. Know when a car slowly moves off camera in Big Blue. Track a slow-moving camera in Rainbow Cruise. And battle on nigh-completely-static stages like Hyrule and Venom.

the reason the stages are banned is usually because of fox since he can infinite relatively easy against any wall on characters like marth, peach, falcon, etc.

Stages are banned because of walkoffs and static walls for the reason that you can be 0 to deathed way too easily, giving some characters a huge advantage. Stages with stage hazards are also banned because it goes against the idea of competitive play. The point of competitive play is to see who is the best player. With stage hazards, instead of being player vs player, it can very often turn to player vs stage, which can be fun casually, but goes against the idea of competitive play. Thats why so many stages are banned.

There may not be one for every stage, but it's pretty easy to predict what was wrong with the layout of the stage. In a nutshell, big stages were running away and lasering, walkoffs were camping at the blast zone, stages with walls were shine infinites, stages with ceilings were survivable to 200%, and stages with hazards were not survivable past 50%.

Fun Fact: Poke Floats WAS tournament legal a long time ago since it had no stage hazards. Some people found some bugs with the stage like infinite traps and various glitches with the platforms so the stage was promptly banned from all tourneys.

I think most players started off by playing for fun when they got the game and then after playing for a long time decided hey I'm pretty good, maybe I should play competitively... At least that's what I did.
