You know, for the past couple of months, I've just been okay with playing against myself in the comfort of my own home. I make the rules, and duel in formats of not only present, but also past, it immersive myself with "Okay, so this card was played in this year only, so I'm only going to use these cards" and It's been fun. Seeing Link Monsters being introduced, and that meme yugioh field like that makes me grateful that I stopped going to tournements, and simply play yugioh as a hobby, and not some competative approach, I'm not going to sink most of my time to yugioh, I wanna go watch movies, play video games, and walk outside, and feel like I'm playing Death Stranding all while keeping my job, and paying bills at the age of 30. Seeing that photo just makes me wanna stop playing if I ever go back to tournerment. I can only hope there will be a new rule of "Max Chains are 6".

I appreciate that one of the main people who got me to try YGO feels this way about it. This feels like the extreme end of the consistent issues I've had playing. It's one thing for cards to have a lot of small and unrelated text. But to me, having this many cards with this many effects is chaotic. As you pointed it, even the commentators got lost in it, and the major resolve ended with an empty board state. Something in the game needs to get streamlined, or they need to start throttling power and complexity so it doesn't *only* creep upwards.

The Forbidden/Limited list needs a hard reset at this point. Otherwise Konami will keep making decks that make other decks so obsolete that only the rich and wealthy players can afford which said rich and wealthy players have probably already moved on to greener pastures... Basically Konami needs to start to actually regulating the Forbidden/Limited list where even the most problematic cards are put their like in Goat Format from back in the day.

@@HiroofDeath Problem is, each time they try to slow down the game, especially during the invention of a new summoning type, it breaks the game in a completely worse way. 90% of duels become completely about these new summoning plays and all others become absolutely meaningless. Sad part is, there really is no balance in Yugioh anymore. In the anime/manga world, its ok for some duelist to play such broken cards as most limit themselves to a single archetype with mostly a single copy of a card with a small 5 or so splashables. In the real world? Hah!

@@HiroofDeath they need to add maxx c mechanic into the base game, or a masquerade effect to the game, and make it so both players can only deal a maximum of 1000 damage per turn no matter what. basicly every time you activate an effect, you need to pay 600 life. yugioh needs a cost system. with this system it forces people to play conservatively and don't vomit out their hand and they can't win anyways since they can only deal 1000. and the more cards you activate the closer you are to death

@@NeostormXLMAX I feel like a damage cap is too much. Still, I agree Yu-Gi-Oh needs a proper cost system. Discarding, Tributing, and Milling as a cost worked when Yu-Gi-Oh didn't have as many Graveyard effects. Now it's considered a second deck, and some decks, like Tear right now, their whole thing is they want to be sent to the Graveyard. If I were to give a resource to Yu-Gi-Oh, one way I would do it is inspired by games like Hearthstone and Shadowverse, where everyone starts with a number, let's call it EP(Effect Points), that's determined at the start of the game, and you're only allowed to activate that many effects per turn and the EP counters go up each turn. While some rogue decks that have ultra-long combos are hit, it also prevents degenerate infinite loop burn decks from being possible.

@@NeostormXLMAX Also, using LP as a resource for every effect feels like too much. One common thing among resource systems in other TCGs, like Magic, Hearthstone, Duel Masters, Shadowverse, etc., is that the resource replenishes itself at the start of every turn. However, LP isn't a renewable resource, so it doesn't feel right to use it as a resource for effects.

Was just checking out some highlights of the event because I follow Jessie from Team SamuraiX and this exact same situation kept happening with him when he played Hani too. Got so confusing that Jessie legit had to ask whose turn it was. An emergency banlist would only be a temporary fix for this situation, they would have to literally start doing time limits just avoid Turn 1 lasting more then a half hour to set up an entire board. The game really needs to a hard reset at this point.

@@JuwanBuchanan I mean why not, I don't know to me the concept of forgoing a turn system all together in favor of interaction intensive games defined by priorities and chains doesn't sound that bad, it almost feels like a jump from turn based RPGs to real time and honestly if yugioh managed that kind of transition it could very well be the first card game to even try to get out of a "typical" turn based system which I'm not gonna lie I'm hella curious about. One of my friend told me once that learning yugioh felt like learning geometry and well maybe he was onto something. The whole idea sounds insane and I don't know I kinda like it.
@pentagon56
@pentagon56 Жыл бұрын
@@shenwoo666hellbrawl It is an interesting concept, the only problem with it is there needs to be proper escalations of interaction. A duel is not much different from a fight. So in that regard, a fight between two where one starts with a poke in the shoulder and the opponent responds by pulling out a bazooka and blowing them to bits is not a sensible trajectory of events. This is much how the game can be anymore. And most aren't expecting their opponent to be so cutthroat to get the edge and the win condition.
@shenwoo666hellbrawl
@shenwoo666hellbrawl Жыл бұрын
@@pentagon56 Yeah I see what you mean with escalation but I don't know I feel like Yugioh may be onto something that could have some interesting potential. I mean at that point I think it really can go both ways, either yugioh starts putting more "limiters" in place, like I don't know adding maybe a set of "unegatable" actions in the rule themselves or harsher restrictions between phases (maybe something like restricted number of summons or even chains during main phase 1 and 2), take your pick but it would have to be something really drastic at that point because I agree that we may be reaching the absolute limits of what the current rules can support without totally breaking. This solution may alienate a lot of current players but could be a good bridge for new and returning players who don't necessarily want everything to turn into a 2 turns slug contest. The only other sensible alternative in my opinion would be to just take it next level and thus rethinking the game in the way I talked about in my earliest comment which would defenitely leave a whole bunch of archetypes in the dust and maybe force them to rethink card design as a whole. Now this would alienate just as much people and either way I agree that fundamentally things seem to have reached a pretty tipping point. I'm really curious to see how Konami is gonna navigate that one, and who knows maybe we are witnessing a new era for this game. This format seems to be absolutely rough to navigate through though that I will also agree with and I can't really blame players for feeling overloaded with all that can potentially happen on a yugioh board nowadays

I've been playing casually for 4 months now and really love the design of the cards; so I build decks around what looks cool to me and if it can be worked into a cohesive deck. My main problem has been trying to counter the stronger deck like Sprites and Tearlaments. It's very hard to not play "meta" when most deck builds won't match up to it in strength. One thing I've been trying to incorporate is utilising them banishing and milling my cards to the GY. It's been going.. OK. But now I feel like I'm only building decks specifically to counter Sprites and Tearlaments. It's already hard to build a cohesive deck, but it's even harder with decks like these being the usual opponent. It doesn't leave a lot of room for creativity and makes the matchups feel predictable and helpless at the same time. That's my take on it, sorry if it offends anyone. 🙏🌻

Then Konami prints the Ishizu cards, that can mill up to 20 and are accesible easily through the Main Deck. So the Chaos Ruler ban feels very dishonest now

That picture is more of an example of bad habits of some of the top players, especially Pak. He's constantly shuffling graveyards and placing cards on the field that don't belong there. He's not the only one, but definitely twitches and messes with card orders more noticeably than others in feature matches. With a standard yugioh mat, you have play space behind your spell/trap zone to resolve effects like this without it looking like complete chaos. This is why back in the 5D's era, they didn't allow players to fan the graveyard across the field at events; the judges have gotten way more lax with proper card placement.

One of the house rules my friends and I play with is a summoning limit. You may summon no more than five times per turn. This has done a lot to help keep the back-and-forth nature of OG Yugioh, while also allowing for combo plays and modern engines. It also makes you have to think about the limited resources and how best to use them. I recommend giving it a try, you'd be surprised how much it fixes a lot of Yugioh's problems.

Competitive Yugioh is moving further and further into a realm where the only people who are enjoying it are the most insular dedicated players. The only people who can keep up and enjoy this Tear/Ishizu stuff are the Tear players themselves. The only other decks getting representation are basically anti-Tear or Mystic Mine turbo. On top of that the logistical speed of the game overall feels like it’s being designed for automated duel simulators (MD, EdoPro, etc) rather than human play. It’s becoming increasingly difficult anyone who doesn’t have a super computer for a brain to keep up with just how much interaction is happening, ESPECIALLY within a 40min time limit (not saying it’s impossible, but it’s very easy for competitive Yugioh players to not recognize growing problems because they’re so engrossed in the system already).

I feel like this sort of thing is inevitable when your TCG / CCG doesn't have formats. You have to encourage players to buy more cards. I think what Yugioh desperately needs is new formats.

I feel like archetype lock for main deck is a great idea but not for both main an extra as some archetypes don't have a great boss monster to go into, so they end up using more generic options to help them out. however I agree that completely generic options that can be thrown into anything is ridiculous. so instead I propose Type locking the extra deck, just as an inherent rule to the game, you are archetype locked when building a main deck, and type locked when making a extra deck. so no more throwing in random engines into every deck, no more "oh you broke my board of boss monsters ok well now I'll go into all my generic extra deck cards and make a boss monster that doesn't share anything in common with my archetype at all just cuz I can". side deck can still be filled with staples like dark ruler, or handtraps etc cuz those cards imo are kind of a necessity at this point. but I feel like they should only be limited to the side deck cuz if you can throw them into the main or extra deck for no downsides, everyone will just run 10 handtraps and staple cards in the main sometimes more, turning your deck that is meant to be unique into either one 4th of a deck everyone else is playing, or half your deck isn't even a deck anymore but instead staple cards. IDK if this idea is better or not but I'm sure it'd be more helpful than just letting the game be as it is rn.

I'm just exhausted with yugioh right now. The best thing about yugioh was always trap cards. I just love literally setting a trap for my opponent to walk into. I'm not saying I don't love combos because I do but the game has gotten to a point where trap cards seem useless.

The arguably second strongest deck of the format is Spright and if you watch how they play, its more of a resource grind game while putting a few disruptions on board, kind of like a stronger version of Sky Striker when it was at full power. Now take a look at Tear, the deck basically allows you to mill your entire deck and chain nearly everything together on your opponents turn no less! Tear breaks Yugioh by allowing the deck to be considered an easily accessible resource. I cannot imagine the sort of powercreep that would be needed to keep Tear in check without severely crippling the deck on the banlist. Either hit Tear now or wait for whatever unholy abomination of an archetype comes to usurp it

New Exodia cards. Main Card Exodia's Mom, level 1 effect monster. 0 Atk 0 Def. If this card is in your hand, graveyard or banished you can special summon it, even on your opponents turn. The summoning and following effect cannot be negated or disrupted. Draw as many Exodia cards as you want from your deck and/or graveyard to your hand. You may also return banished Exodia cards to your hand. Problem solved. Tear to tear user

The whole thing that made yugioh fun for me was how fast-paced it used to be, and now it’s just slow, messy and when you’re on the opposite end of the table, it can be absolutely boring at times. And I see people putting down strategies like activating branded expulsion to put ra’s disciple on the opponent’s board to stop them from spamming by calling it “skill-less” but defend boards with 20 Omni-negates and these kind of decks where they kill half the deck and activate 10 effects and think of it as “fun”. The time limit exists for a reason and these people spit on it by playing to time every match.

Totally agree with you, Paul. I've been returning to this game recently and, honestly, this meta shenanigans are kind of a turn off and a great obstacle to get my teenage brother to get into the game (he's been learning Code Talkers via the Transcode starter and I've been messing around with Albaz Strike (yes, it's kind of unfair)). Plus, the card and sealed products prices here in Brazil get to astronomic numbers. I've seen someone complaining about having to work a full day to afford a Baronne de Fleur... Imagine this one card being worth half a month of minimum wage. It's actually 60% of my highschool teacher's paycheck... The point being: I think competitive Yu-Gi-Oh lost the fun aspect of the thing with the overcomplicated plays, effects and etc. Even my slow-going and unoptimized deck frequently throws my brother into the boredom of waiting for my effects to resolve and plays to be made and I personally find it very sad.

I don't think the mills are the problem, it's the Tearlament cards. They have no restrictions with extremely powerful effects. Orcust got hit with the ban hammer because they could do all their plays on their opponent's turn. Tear is the sane way, if not worse, because at least Orcust locked you into Dark.

This is the very picture illustrating Power Creep. Honestly, I love it. Not because I play it or will even play against it. If I see someone play a Floo/Tear/Sprite card I will get up and walk away on the spot. However, I am happy because this toxic bullshit has gotten so out of hand that even the Competitive Copium Players who would try and denounce me with "Just draw the Out" or "You're just a YugiBoomer" are now reaping what they sowed. You kept incentivizing Konami to print these broken cards. Now deal with the consequences of your actions when noone plays with you, or worse...You play against someone as sweaty and toxic as you and now you get to swallow the poison that is a 14 minute turn 1, chain 42 combo deck. And then in your next match see the exact same thing with a slight tweak in a card or 2 as a tech pick.

Don't, i buy ygo cards for collection, to it is impossible, you need to look up people online explaining how decks work since cards are full of text that you even forget some effects. And the game us unplayable. Mtg is playable due to mana escalation, it takes a while to play big monsters. Even tho you already see people killing opponents in 2 turns like in ygo but not as much. But honestly investing money on TCG nowadays is like gambling, at the end you just lose money for a dumb game
