It's quite incredible how much homework TFS did when it comes to Cloud, Jenova, Sephiroth, Hojo, Reeve and Tifa. They didn't have to go out of their way and could have just told it straight, but this series provides so much insight into those elements that might have been missed or overlooked in the original game.

Their understanding of the concepts in this game is actually quite impressive. They got the whole thing that the Devs of Remake were trying to get across, that just because you are part of an evil organisation, that doesn't necessarily make you evil. Amongst many other concepts that the game was trying to bring across. A lot of the stuff they touched on was nuanced and easily missed in the game.

@@LloydTheZephyrian No, not really. But FF7 is considered one of the greatest RPG's made, so FF8 had an almost unrealistic bar to follow, and it sadly didnt do that. FF7 is better imo, but FF8 is in no way bad. The story is as convoluted as FF7's is, but the main villain is just... not as compelling. The main character, Squall, is giving an unrealistic amount of shit for being "emo", despite it being a highly realistic display of his inner monologue/thoughts in game (a 17 year old being trained to be a mercenary, who has no parents and lost his sister.. yeah, he was not going to be a happy guy ffs). On top of this, the gameplay mechanics are... good and equally not good. Its incredibly easy to completely break the game, with some characters being able to get their most powerful weapons very early on. A lot of emphasis is put on GF's (Guardian Forces, the summons of FF8) who are really not that useful at all. FF8 is a fun game to play, but unlike FF7 its flaws are much more apparant. FF7 also has a substantial higher amount of rewards for re-visiting previous locations and secrets, where FF8 doesnt have much of anything to backtrack to, other than the card-game minigame that the game really relies on for entertainment.

Except VIII. The only useful thing Cid does in that game is give you a magical lamp which contains the Diablo GF, and warn you to be careful about using it. Turns out the lamp is cursed and if you're not prepared for the upcoming battle (that's most people if they haven't grasped FFVIII's junction system by this point), Diablo will kick your ass in about thirty seconds. Oh, he's also married to the villain of the game, and doesn't let that piece of trivia slip until three quarters of the way through. Cid Kramer is worse than Obi-Wan Kenobi at keeping important plot points close to his chest.

@@jamesgravil9162 You do know that Cid Kramer established SEED BECAUSE he knew nothing could stand up to the generation’s sorceress once she turned evil, right? In all honesty, Cid MADE the contingency plan to keep the world safe, which is SEED. Bash FF8 all you want, but the change in mechanics along with more ease of using limit breaks were what made beginners to the FF franchise feel welcomed. Also, you can’t deny how stunning the guardian force system was animated. And for reference, cast blind against Diablos first; then soften him up with Gravija; and then once his HP is down to the bare minimum, beat him with an atk or limit break if he hits you or Demi gets your HP down to make limit breaks possible. Seriously, beating Diablos ain’t rocket science.

Yo I have legit watched this like 20 times easily. You know how you have movies you can watch over and over, and then it can be on in the background and you can "watch" it but do other stuff. The Dark Knight was the first movie I ever did that with. There's only a hand full of movies on my list. This is being added to that list. I've seen comments about how the series changes and etc. I love all of it! Starts funny stays funny but you see that character development. I love the repeated jokes that everyone gets. I love the cross over jokes. I love how there are jokes that get shared between protagonists and antagonists. I love how people say the same jokes others say and had no idea the others said it. This is a roller coaster and honestly I think the remake watched this and added certain elements into the game. I love the progression of how TFS started only with the in game sprites and then started using the battle screen and then just it's own Brady bunch squares. I love how originally this came out in small chunks, which sometimes I'll watch TFS playlist of those cause the cuts in and out can be a good separator. But you can see that over time people started caring more and more and having fun doing this project. Can not reiterate enough. These actors are freaking amazing Thank you Smith Danigans for compiling this together.
