Congrats on your bathroom! Your hard work really paid off! I agree with you about KonMari. Still, I am glad I started there and read the book, also for the concept of the silent to do list. Then I fell into a youtube rabbit hole - Cas from Clutterbug, Dawn from a Minimal Mom and Dana K White with her No Mess Method have really helped me in different ways. Cas taught me about my organising style, Dawn taught me that minimalism does not have to be restrictive and Dana taught me how to tackle an overwhelming space. So if you need some further inspiration, I can highly recommend these three ladies.

You are doing such an amazing job! All your hard work is so rewarding to watch! If you are able, in the next month or two, revisit the space and see what else you can part with.. my guess is you are able to live with and be happy with a lot less than what you have.. baby steps of course! If you have heard of the Minimal Mom, she has some really great content and very diverse too - not one size fits all, I recommend you check her out if you have the time. PS: You are in Utah right? We're in SLC valley, I've recognized the mountains in some of your videos!

Thank you! I plan on revisiting all the places I've gone through for sure. I feel like I have a lot more to learn. We do! We live in the south part of the Salt Lake Valley and have a beautiful view of the mountains from our deck.

You have come so far. I am super inspired every time I watch your videos to get up and get to tackling things. I have laundry carts/bags just like that. I got mine I think as Sams but anyways I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!! Each bag is a load and when its full into the wash it goes. At least thats how it works at my house LOL This looks AMAZING!!! I am so tickled for you. CONGRATS!!! I will be honest I dont know much about KonMari other that "sparks joy". I am a tear it all out be harsh its gotta go declutter'er lol You are a rock star chickie!! P.S. I am a hand talker too lol

Thank you! ❤️You're so right, the bags are the perfect size of one load of laundry. I'm loving it. But I already decided I want a collapsable laundry basket under, because if I take them in and out too much, I don't think they could handle the wear and tear for many years, plus I like the shape of baskets for working. I didn't know much about KonMari except that and the folding. One of my daughters loves the folding and has been teaching me.

I love hearing you speak on the cultural aspects of housekeeping! I love Dana K White, personally, just from youtube, haven’t read her books. Also like Gretchen Rubin, who wrote “Outer Order, Inner Calm.” I hired a professional organizer a couple years ago and from her I learned: - the point is functionality, not how much stuff can be squeezed into a space - labels, clear and or open containers, no lids for short term storage, no having to move one thing to get to another are all important. She put my extra toothpaste and floss in one small dollar store tray and toothbrushes and brush heads in another tray, both trays on a shelf of my linen closet. I thought this was crazy; the shelf was deep enough and spaced far enough from the one above to hold a 12”x12” storage container, or she could have at least used one of those “make a shelf” racks and put something else above the trays. I left it though, and a few weeks later I noticed an empty tray in the closet. My first thought was “how did this get here?” And my second was “wonder what I can use it for?” Then I saw the label, aha, I was out of floss AND toothpaste. I thought the labels were silly. I live alone, I knew what went where without needing labels. But the truth was I DO need the labels. And because the trays are shallow I can easily see how many of something I have, and now I notice that I’m taking the last or second to last item. Because they’re lidless I can quickly put new items away - I don’t need two hands. But I can also easily stack items up if I over buy or there’s a sale. For items in bigger bins, once they were labeled and I went to go get something out I realized that I’d been in the habit of trying to figure out which bin to get out based on whether or not the shapes I could make out through the translucent sides of the bin seemed to match what I was looking for. I don’t have to play that game anymore! And when I put things away I don’t have to look in a bin and decide if the thing in my hand is more like the other things in this bin, or in the other bins to figure out where to ultimately put it. There’s a label that categorizes it, or lists things outright, if necessary. Finally, she took things like facial tissue out of the overwrap that holds multiple boxes together. They store together more easily - all the boxes together instead of an open stack on the shelf and an unopened one somewhere on the floor. And I don’t have to wrestle with the wrap every time I get a box out.

Thank you, I hope it's interesting. I can totally relate to trying to figure out if I have the right bin, except I also have people in the house that don't know where things go, so the labels would be even more helpful. Thanks for sharing all this, you've given me some great tips, especially to take smaller containers out of the big wrapper as soon we get home.

The spark joy question is actually genius. The problem is often that many people don’t have a clue what that means because we are cluttered by buts. But… it is useful, I need it, it is inherited, I paid a lot for it, someone gave it to me, I like it etc. When all the buts are gone, it is easier to know what sparks joy.
@AmiAtHome
@AmiAtHome 10 сағат бұрын
I think it is a really important question, but honestly many important tools in my life don’t spark joy. But I guess those kinds of things aren’t clutter and I understand she talks about that elsewhere. (And certainly I might have too many and need to decide which one I want to keep)

Thanks for sharing! Personally, I would never recommend using the kon marie method,it is far too ambiguous & does not address the reasons why it got cluttered in the first place. However, I would recommend Dana K White & The Minimal Mom as they have helped me to achieve the most. I think the best method is the one that personally works for you ! Best Wishes 😊

I totally agree! People who can afford a professional organizer already have resources that other people with clutter problems wouldn't have, so she would never have met them. I'm really enjoying Dana's book right now, and I like the Minimal Mom too.

@ wow, that was fast! His book is balanced and practical and doesn’t go into counting how many things to get rid of, setting a timer to declutter a space, keeping things that “spark joy” or any of the psychological ideas so many KZbinrs use. That book dug me out of a mess of collections, dirt, stuff we didn’t need and was life changing. Hope you get the same result. 😎

At 12:17 you asked a question, but I couldn't understand the word in Japanese in order to surch the meaning in Portuguese.

The spelling is tokimeku. I’m curious what it translates into in Portuguese! ❤️
@marciag100
@marciag100 Күн бұрын
@@AmiAtHome ときめく tokimeku, in Portuguese, according to Google, is "emoção". But if in Japanese tokimeku means something like butterflies in your gut when you fall in love, "emoção" in English is not just emotion: it is more like a thrill, a pulse, a palpitation.

Hi Ami! I liked and subscribed to your video just after a few minutes in. I really enjoy a declutter like this one, with lots of items and purging and organizing. Great job. I recently watched someone with a lot of make up and brushes. The helper organizer asked her to go through her brushes and then eventually the rest of her make up and pick out the brushes she uses every single day and then some occasionally used ones that she liked to use. She was able to pare down a lot of her makeup and brushes doing it this way. Maybe if you try this, you could put the items you are not using every day into a container, to be stored under the cabinet or a drawer and that way you could see if you go looking for that item in a weeks time, for example. I also noticed that the items you have on your counter appeared to be twice as many, because of the reflection of the mirror and it looks like you have more than you really do have. I think this adds to visual clutter and may bother you or it may not? I look forward to future videos. 😊
@AmiAtHome

I like that idea! I do have some less used things I already put off the counter, but thinking more precisely - even about things I use on a weekly basis, rather than a daily one will improve it even more. I haven't really gone over my counter make-up for a few months, and I've learned a lot more about decluttering now. Thanks! The mirror thing - that makes a lot of sense too.
