The duo filler is amazing. I’m using the previous version and it’s probably the best piece of kit I bought for my home canning setup. I’ve had NEIPA canned for more than a year and absolutely no sign of oxygenation (the colour of my verdant clone remained the same as on day 1).

I'm looking at canning coolers to take out ice fishing since glass and ice are not a good combo (btw...I distill at home)....so great timing on this vid. Question: I'm sure you have seen leaks what is the biggest cause (tilted can/ too much fill/ badly placed lid / badly adjusted machine rollers /etc). Any pointers would be very much appreciated. All the best from Canada

The main area that causes issues with the seam is the adjustment of the height of the can. We check every machine before it leaves us and ensure its seaming correctly, we add a seamed can to the box as verification that it's working. 👍🏻

Prior to my retirement I spent a great deal of my time with industrial 'Product Handling' Equipment and making it safe to operate. I have previously seen a different version of a Canner which, in my opinion was unsafe. Yours looked very good in that respect and if I had the money ( :-) ) I would buy it. Another point. With bottles I can re-use/recycle them. Are the empty Cans returnable to the supplier for recycling? A Plastic Milk/Juice Container adds about 5 or 6 pence to the cost of the product. A glass bottle adds a bit more and for milk the returnability is factored into the cost of the Milk (ten journeys I think), Beer probably not and with Home Brew definitely so you may see the reason for my query.

Hi James, glad you like the can seamer! We love it! The cans can't be sent directly back to us but they are easily recycled in most areas in your recycling collections or drop off points.

Great video thanks. How easy is it to make adjustments to the seamer. Prior to shipping have you carried out seam inspections with a gauge? It looks like a plug n play setup but Oktober and Gorrilla all recommend buying a seam gauge to check periodically that your cans meet relevant guidelines. I am interested in buying but nervous that I wouldn't be able to make necessary adjustments to the seamer.

Out of the box the machine will seam 330, 440 and 500ml cans. We check each machine and adjust as needed before they ship. We choose to use the burst method to check seams by stressing the can to the point of failure and are very pleased with the results.

Great stuf guys and this setup is on the list for my small home brewery here in Wales. One question. I am researching labeling options as even though I am not selling it really completes the process. Have you any recommendations?

There’s lots of different options but also if you do a search online there are beer label templates which can yield some good results 👍🏻

Hi fellas nice video. I think you are being a bit disingenuous about the ease of effective can filling to be honest. This video makes it look a piece of cake which I can assure you, and I’m pretty sure you already know, is not the actual case in reality. This is a fab looking but expensive setup and I think you need to give way more info and guidance on the process so potential customers can make an informed decision. For instance what do you recommend for the following variables for best filling: Carbonation level of beer Best temp of the beer for effective filling Temp of the cans pre-filling Fill levels in each size can to prevent equalisation Amount of predicted waste beer due to foaming I could go on but that should cover the major issues I’ve come across as a home brewer who cans beer. I think when you are selling the equipment especially to people who haven’t canned before you should t least explain the issues that they will come across. The MOST important factor is product temperature and if a prospective customer can not chill their beer to 0c in their existing setup be that in fermenter or keg they should not consider can filling. Even then it is still not easy for pro brewers never mind amateurs to get constant great filling with no waste. I will probably still end up buying this setup as it looks great but I feel it’s important that the potential issues are explained to people who haven’t tried canning. My setup currently is the Cannular semi auto seamer and I fill with a Blichman beer gun. I have a Tap Cooler counter pressure can filler that I actually got from you but it just doesn’t work - no matter what we do we either lose loads of beer trying to get a full can or we get too big a headspace in the can due to foaming and then you get Co2 equalisation in the headspace and therefore under carbonated beer in the can. There are multiple can filling videos on KZbin (often made by a KZbinr who been given a setup free by a supplier !!) and not one of them talks about any of the difficulties of actually doing the process - hard evidence would be seeing 20 cans filled with fully carbonated beer and then weigh each can on camera. It will never happen 😂 Canning is fab and I love it but it isn’t an easy process to get right and I think you guys should be more upfront about how hard it can be. That’s my little rant over for what it’s worth. Keep up the good work as I rate Malt Miller as a great company but you shouldn’t chase sales at the expense of service.

P’s - forgot to mention that although the seamers are easier than the filling a bit of a video explaining getting the seamer height adjustments spot on and seaming chuck adjustment (usually isn’t needed but is very fiddly if it is) if required wouldn’t go amiss.

Hey Buddy, thanks for the feedback. Sorry you felt that the video was disingenuous, our intention was to show the user that this setup, with practice, can be very very simple and easy. In our experience, using the Duofiller (once programmed correctly) the filling of the cans is very straightforward. We have seamed and filled over 100 cans with this specific unit and had very few issues once it is set up. Carbonation levels haven’t been a big issue nor has waste (once dialled in the fill levels). Cold beer is vital, yes: we should have added that to the commentary. Our customer service team have used this combination a number of times too and are always on hand to help out and talk to customers who might have issues with any of the process. We always pride ourselves on the ease of gaining service and answering queries here at TMM and many of our videos come directly from queries we might get from many customers and this, along with informing and educating about the brewing process, is our main goal with the YT channel. Every one of our seamers is tested prior to shipping and we make any adjustments that might be needed before, then we put a seamed can into the box to indicate this to customers. If you every need advice or support with this, or any of our equipment or ingredients please just drop us a line. 🍻
