What few videos I have seen of Tommy Burns, he seemed like a pretty decent heavyweight for a smaller guy. Until he met up with Jack Johnson of course. I think it was despicable the way Sonny Liston was treated. He had every right to be heavy weight champion. The precision of “Clay’s” demolition of Liston is a thing of pugilistic beauty as well as his (Ali’s)victory over George Foreman. I love your slo-mo and different angles. A flawless presentation. The Lineal World Champion was and is an answer for fans and critics to follow the "REAL" world champion in any weight class with-out interfearence from the major ruling organisations (WBC, WBA, IBF & WBO). The organisations follow there own politics and agendas of ranks & title recognitions. The Lineal concept of a lineal champion was developed by boxing fans and boxing historians, dissatisfied by the tendency of each of the various sanctioning bodies (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, etc. and before these there was NYSAC & NBA) to recognize different champions. In professional boxing, the lineal champion is informally called "the man who beat the man". A concept that is true, but not with-out its flaws. Like: A break in the direct continuity of a lineal championship can occur when a reigning champion retires or moves up/down to another weight class. However, there is NO single canonical list of lineal champions at any weight class, because there is NO agreed-upon method of determining the starting point for each lineage. There is agreement to discount the sanctioning bodies (such as the WBA, WBC, IBF, or WBO) stripping a title, something that have been debacled for ages if some boxers have been stripped for right reason(s) or political reason(s). Another criticism of the lineal championship is that a fighter may defend it against inferior opponents. For example, George Foreman was the lineal champion from 1994 until 1997, when Shannon Briggs controversially defeated him. After the WBA and IBF stripped him of their titles in 1995, Foreman fought only two, lower-regarded opponents before Briggs. The lineal champion is not necessarily the boxer viewed as the best in the weight division. The classic boxing magazine "The Ring" has awarded world championships in professional boxing within each weight class from its foundation in 1922. The first Ring world title belt was awarded to heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey and from that on to the early 90's, The Ring world title belt became the acting symbol of the Lineal championship. But in the early 90's when they stoped awarded its belt, it became a glap in many weight divisions of "who was the new Lineal champion" (?). The heavyweight division thank the good lord was the most promising lineage intact that had existed in a perfect line since Floyd Patterson's era of 1956. Since the original = first recognized world heavyweight champion John L. Sullivan in 1885 and lasted till Gene Tunney in 1928, where the 1st line was broken. Max Schmeling was the start of the 2nd line of lineal champions in 1930. That 2nd line would last from 1930 to 1949 with Joe Lous retireing after a 11 year ling reign but because he made a comeback and lost to new world champion Ezzard Charles, the 2nd Lineal line was intact and goes on till 1956 with Rocky Marciano retireing undefeated as defending champion to never come back. That was the end of the 2nd reign after 26 years. The 3rd reign is started of the lineage with Floyd Patterson taking up the crown in 1956 so from 1956 till 2004 the perfect lineage was intact. Patterson to Johansson back to Patterson. Patterson to Liston to Clay/Ali. Ali to Frazier to Foreman. Foreman to Ali to Spinks and back to Ali. Ali to Holmes and Holmes to Spinks. Spinks to Tyson and Tyson to Douglas. Douglas to Holyfield and Holyfield to Bowe. Bowe back to Holyfield and then to Moorer. Moorer to Foreman and Foreman to Briggs. Briggs to Lewis and Lewis to Rahman before returning back to Lennox Lewis - and stop! 3-time world champion Lennox Lewis became the last lineal world heavyweight champion of this 48 year long line of champions when he retired in 2004 to never come back. A new Lineal champion in the heavyweight division was attempted in 2004 when The Ring Magazine awarded there Ring world title belt to Vitali Klitschko on 24 Apr 2004 - but it became short lived and never truly picked up as a fully "legit" Lineal recognition as it ended in Nov 2005 when Vitali was forced to retire out of chronicle back problems. Not until 2009 there became an aggrement of who was the best man in the heavyweight division and that was Wladimir Klitschko who earned the recognition in 2009 after having dominated all opposition and in the process unified IBF/WBO/IBO and attempted the WBA but of WBA politics the belt was not on the line when defeating undefeated WBA champion Ruslan Chagaev. In 2011 Klitschko unified his belt with the WBA. So the 4th Lineal line was started by Klitschko in 2009 and after a longer reign in 2015 changed hands to Tyson Fury. After not doing much with it after his Wilder trilogy, (telling he on-off retired between 2022-2024) Oleksandr Usyk unified the whole HW boxing world championship (Lineal/Ring/WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO) in May 2024 after having out-classed Fury and remains as of December 2024 THE champion of HW boxing. There are several weight divisions that had problems in having a new Lineal champion. The Middleweight division is an example where the Lineage was´having a great paus from 1987 with Marvin Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard when Leonard retired the title. Not until the Middleweight division was unified again in 2001 by Bernard Hopkins there was a unity who was the new lineal world champion who had earned the prestigue recognition. And this lineage was broken by Canelo Alvarez in 2020 and no new lineage has been accepted in the middleweight division.

1:24 - No mention that Jeffries retired undefeated, nor about the crown being left vacant whatsoever (or any other info about his career) 2:17 - The footage shown is of Johnson Vs middleweight champion Stanley Ketchel, not from when he fought Burns. The audio was dishonestly taken from a narration of the Burns fight, 30:36 The undefeated Spinks got two seconds and his face wasnt even shown, apart from during his only career loss to Mike, Also, Johnson didnt "hound" Burns for a title shot. Burns was willing to fight Johnson, but had a tight schedule for the many defenses he fought against the national champions and conteders around the world. No discussion on the circumstances that lead to any of these champions declines (Johnsons exile/age, Dempsey layoff/hollywood, Alis layoff, etc) with the exeption of in the 20% of the video dedicated to Mike Tyson for some reason.... 47:45 Klitchkos amazing title reign got 10% of the time as Fury beating him when the champion was forty.....

The referee has the official count. He's counting and also observing the condition of the downed fighter. Fighters beat the count and the ref can stop the fight or the ref can stop the fight without counting at all. When Buster went down the first thing he did was punch the canvas in frustration. He listened to the refs count and got up in time. Mike was crawling around looking for his teeth, he got up at the count of nine but the ref determined he couldn't continue. FOH with the long count bs. If you watch closely Mike got the same count as Buster.

Yes - Buster was taking as long as he needs before he stands back up - looking at the ref to time getting up when so that has as much respite as possible.

Really it’s just Don King not willing to accept that his cash cow (And Tyson was a massive one at that) got beat by a better fighter and a better man that day
Yup. If the ref had said "nine!" faster, Douglas would've gotten up faster.

Tyson Fury is not the lineal champion of the world, after the klitshko fight he retired which meant he relinquished his belt otherwise logically the belt ended with Marciano, Usyk is the current Lineal champion of the world, that's the rules, if you retire you relinquish that title and coming back out of retirement doesn't mean you get it back.

The lineal champ thing is such bs and it drives me nuts that Fury currently calls himself that. There are numerous breaks in the 'lineage' when a fighter retires, moves weight class etc. Plus there was the whole period when black fighters were prevented from fighting at the top level. Also, I swear joe already did this video but maybe im thinking of another channel

Congrats to Francis The Predator Ngannou, the Lineal Heavyweight Champion of two sports. Perhaps he can be in the video next time since he clearly beat Tyson.

It's crazy when you think about it... Francis was one point away from being on this video... And as if that would not have blown you away. he would have become the lineal champion simultaneously of 2 different combat sports.
