USA did the same in Vietnam and lost a lot of American lives and had to make an embarrassing exit, the same in Afghanistan. This time US shied away from sending their own troops and again underestimated their designated enemy and used many unwilling Ukrainian people to do the attempted weakening of Russia. The Ukrainians were literally press ganged into fighting and the outcome is Russia has strengthened itself, learnt a lot about western hardware and is generally stronger. USA with its proxy wars in Ukraine and Gaza has weakened itself to the point of bankruptcy, and avoidance by other countries outside of Nato. Self inflicted damage and destruction of Ukrainian families for the parasitic requirements of USA again has backfired and exposed US administration as a genocidal , parasitic group similar to Ancient Rome.

The US has a dangerous habit of getting involved in wars that are none of its damn business. And the price of striving to be the world's hegemon is getting steeper and more risky. Our foreign policy stinks, and our leaders that continue to promote it are clueless and reckless. The time is long overdue for a serious reassessment of our foreign policy and place in the world. In 1960, media mogul Henry Luce wrote, "The people of America are asking for a clear sense of national purpose." If it's to keep us embroiled in dangerous escalation, then we'd better get a different national purpose.

Agree with most of the arguments, but don't agree that it's mainly manpower which is Ukraine's biggest problem. At the start of the conflict, the Ukrainian military was three times the size (in manpower) of the Russian forces in Ukraine. A lack of leadership and the focus on media victories, instead of battlefield victories, is the reason why Ukraine is now facing a major shortage in manpower. Sending ever more troops into a losing positions, caused Ukraine to loose a significant part of it's well trained forces and critical equipment. Also the foolish offensives, like the Kherson offensive, which was doomed from the start, had a devastating effect on Ukraine's fighting capabilities. The latest Kursk offensive will be the death-knell for the Ukrainian military. This offensive was a bold and wild gamble. If Ukraine had succeeded to capture the Kursk nuclear facility, it would most probably have paid-off, but the price Ukraine paid for this offensive would always have been devastating. To launch this offensive, Ukraine sacrificed it's last reserves and pulled some of its most experienced and battle hardened forces from the already undermanned positions in the Donbas region. After 2 days it was clear that the offensive was not going to succeed: Ukraine failed to capture the power plant and Russia did not pull it's troops from the other front lines in any significant number to remedy the Kursk invasion. Ukraine should have pulled out its troops immediately, but failed to do so because it would have been a serious media debackle. This leaves the Ukrainian strongholds and fortifications, which held for nearly three years and were a major obstacle for Russia's advance, critically undermanned. Russia saw this as the perfect opportunity to capture these strongholds, which have been a thorn in Russia's side for so long. Russia tried many times to overwhelm these strongholds but failed precipitously. Now there is virtually nothing left of this resistance and there is little to hold back the Russians from moving all the way to the Dniper river. Also the lack of industrial capacity in the west to replenish the Ukrainian military with equipment and ammunition, they used or lost on the battlefield, plays a major role in Ukraine's precarious situation. The west is now in full damage control modus, changing the narratives in an effort to find a way to explain the Ukrainian defeat as some kind of a victory to save face for the western politicians who embedded themselves completely in this conflict. Yesterday I heard Biden claim that Russia already lost because Ukraine still exists. Russia never intended to destroy Ukraine and didn't even want to annex any part of Ukraine as exhaustively proven by the Minsk II and the Istanbul draft agreement. Neither of these agreements called for Ukraine to cede any territory and were mainly demanding Ukrainian neutrality, de-militarization and guarantees that the rights of the Russian speaking population in Ukraine would be respected. Western involvement and continuous escalation of the conflict forced the Russians to change their objectives and if this conflict continues, there is a good chance that Ukraine will seize to exist as a sovereign country.

IFF USA had immediately expanded artillery (&artillery tube) manufacturing capacity around August/September2022 (by about 20 fold), when artillery war of attrition loomed, Ukraine might have had a chance. Absent that, the 5x population advantage and 6X artillery advantage of a Russia perceiving an existential threat, and actively mobilizing, severely limited the chances of Ukraine dominating the battlespace. Multiple occasions spring/summer 2022, General David Petraeus intoned 'the arsenal of democracy' as words of encouragement. Why NATO refused to comply with Minsk agreements ... and sabotaged the agreement being developed between Putin and Zelensky in March/April 2022, hosted by Erdogan, is beyond my understanding. Who's going to build Ukraine back now most of its fit and able men are either dead or maimed? Most of those who fled to the West said they wouldn't go back and those who fled into Russia will only build Eastern Ukraine back as a part of New Russia. It could take decades for rump Ukraine to get back to where it was before the war started and whilst it would never be allowed to join NATO and be Nutral, it would be allowed to join the EU which would be a financial burden to the EU draining it's economic resources even further.

I think what is interesting is how Trump is openly saying he's going to end the war. He is happy to say that knowing it won't cost him votes. A lot of people who wouldn't vote for Trump normally might vote for him or at least abstain because of this issue. The democrats might have to change tact before the election.

Before 2022 there were no steady NATO bases at all in the Nordic countries (except on Iceland and Greenland which are a bit special cases and much further west) but from 2022 on, the Americans really upped the pressure. In a few years, there could be more than ´forty NATO bases across the region..

@@ianoliver3130 A mass psychoisis has gripped Sweden and the propaganda is massive. A NATO membership has been coming since we participated in the campaign against Libya, and then Afghanistan. With the Ukraine war, the madness took over and they quickly grabbed the chance. NO debate, no dissenting voices were heard. It was a very strange process and democracy was thrown out the window. Even sending weapons to Ukraine is against Swedish law, and that was also thrown away. It is a very strange lawlessness here now.

The problem USA has if this goes nuclear is that Russia is a sparsely populated huge country. As explained by Russia , Europe and USA has many military targets easy to strike with devastating effect on the entire Nato structure. Russia does not really even need to use nuclear. The Pentagon itself is a very easy target and has no defence against Russian capabilities.

US & nato perfectly ok to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian. In the highest tradition of Roosevelt fighting Germans to the last Russian by delaying the Normandy landings during WW2 & fighting Iran to the last Iraqi during the 1980s. To note India rejected providing boots on the ground in this century in Afghanistan and Iraq, else wdv repeated model of a colonized India providing soldiers for British empire in the ill fated Anglo-Afghan War, Opium War, WW1, WW2, etc. It is called winning hypocrisy. Now the Bangladeshi coup bringing Islamists to power is about aims to send a message to India to fall in line, since they couldnt totally manage to replace the current Indian leadership with a more pliable one in the recent Indian elections. Preparatory to opening up a Myanmar front vs China.

The western backers are not too concerned about escalating the war. They are more concerned about the retaliatory actions to be taken by Russia should long range missiles are used. Obviously, their decision not to back the use of long range missiles is driven by self serving interest, i.e. their assets and installations overseas will not be the targets of Russia's retaliation.
