Those AI related incidents where people died or disappeared were added to the lore as an explanation for why space combat in the 30th century in Star Citizen isn't just full of AI fighters, with all ships being manually piloted. Human level AI is officially banned by the government. So far, ingame, there isn't even such a thing as auto pilot on the ships. The closest we get is auto docking or auto landing. It is on the feature roadmap to add "AI blades" to the game, which are computer addons you will be able to add to ships, to let the turrets fire without manual input, but these will not be as effective as having an actual human player assisting you. A lot of the lore is added to justify why certain gameplay features exist in the form they do. Also, be aware that a lot of the official lore only comes in the form of text entries, so the visual representations by the Astro Historian are for a large part either fan made, or repurposed from other ingame videos, such as the ship commercials.

Love Astro Historian / Astro Pub content! He's history teacher IRL and loves to get into game lore. Heck yes I'd immigrate to Mars if it was fully habitable!

There's no video about squadron 999, but they do feature in the Invictus 2950 trailer videos. Basically UEEN recruitment propaganda. That series is probably my favourite as they're always so innovative about their visual story telling and they cram so much into so little. And thanks for the comment about the logo, I made it for Paul way back when :D

These videos by AstroHistorian are fantastic, especially because for me personally StarCitizen has the best lore out of any sci-fi IP. It is the perfect mix of believable (not science fantasy) while still allowing for some fun ideas that aren't completely scientifically accurate if you look closer. Just one small tip: The videos he shows are sometimes out of context and only to convey a certain mood. They often aren't videos about the actual event talked about since SC still has way too little media for that
