Fantastic video! Quick, to the point and extremely helpful. I love seeing how other people work because there are so many ways to approach certain tasks. I like that you're not spilling over every detail but just making the right amount of change for the purpose. Thank you Glyn!

Which of the gray backgrounds do you find to be the most neutral? I've got a few and they all seem to be either warm or cool when compared to a gray card.

I just got one called 'storm grey' from WEX here in the UK...seems fine mate...don't really notice it being on the warm or cool side to be honest.

One question, did you mean you took a picture of the concrete with your phone or do you mean the whole portrait with your phone? If its for the whole portrait what phone are you using? I'm simply amazed

Hallo, thank you for the interesting tutorial, but I tried to do so taking a picture with original white background. If I set a gray texture as background on it, the background didn't change ; it remained white. Is that normal ? Thanks for your answer.
@glyndewis7 жыл бұрын
This technique only works on a grey background...not white. If you have a white background then you will need to make it white before using this blend mode technique to add texture.

im sure there's a way to come up with a similar look without resorting to a 3rd party plug-in like Topaz.. il keep looking then.. but this is a pretty good retouching video. great tips

Hi Glyn, How would you tackle a slight overexposure issue of the skin when Burning doesn't work? Would you blend a new layer, paint over the overexposed bits with a colour sampled from the more saturated and well-exposed part of the skin, blur it and use a certain blend mode? What technique do beauty retouchers use (occasionally) to get the skin tones look somewhat bronze, full of detail and colour depth - something playing with exposure sliders, pulling down the highlights and midtones and burning don't yield the result in question. Also, when dodging and burning, do you blur the D/B layer often while doing micro DB as well as global DB? By the way, it is ridiculous that a photographer and a retoucher of your skill must have a hard time making sufficient money to acquire all the gear you need, while talent-lacking scum like trumps, for instance, cache in billions from thin air so they can murder animals in Africa and elsewhere and think their scrawny inbred hideous little selves top predators (that parasitic vermin that's best culled!).

Although this is a very informative video, you could have saved yourself a lot of work had you been more careful in setting up your shot. It is always better to get it right in the camera. It saves you a lot of work in post production. Coming from a film background, and still using film today, there is just so much you can do in the darkroom compared to digital so it is definitely in your best interest to get the best image you can to begin with.
