As a Rico main I will say that robo retreat is way better than you think. If the enemy team is running an aggressive comp (with assassins), then go robo retreat and you are super hard to kill. Also, a tip for the hypercharge: bounce it off of walls behind you so the added range can be used right away and it also fills up the map way more consistently.
