@Samaah 9A6 Interesting question. Someone else more knowledgeable can reply, but I wonder if that's just an exception as it translates to "felicidades"...or maybe the "s" makes a difference? :)
@Thetreeboar3 жыл бұрын
@@boorayin2773 @Samaah 9A6 congratulations comes from gratus in Latin -- thankful, pleasing). Felicidades comes from felix -- happy. Both were used synonymously in Latin, as in "gratulationes et felicitationes." English no longer uses felicitations. Spanish no longer uses gratulations. So it's simply that the root latin word no longer is in use in the other language.

I am learning about rules in English that I didn't even notice. Like Con => com if the next letter is a p.
@bonbonpony4 жыл бұрын
That rule is pretty common in languages, it's called "assimilation". Your mouth is preparing to produce the next sound of "m", so it naturally shifts the preceding sound towards it, from the tongue touching the alveolus (the bump behind your teeth) to pronounce "n", more towards the "m" sound made by the labia (gums), because the next stop sound is also labial (either the unvoiced "p" or the voiced "b"). It's similar with "ng" becoming "ŋ", or palatalization (making softer) of different sounds when the next vowel is high ("e" or "i").

This is difficult for a completely naive beginner like me. Until this it was okay but lot of Spanish words are hard for me to pronounce just by listening to how you say. ‘Diamo’ or tayamo = what in Spanish? I love you = ‘takearo’ or I want you = takearo or is it I want = kearo?
@jakeleon34194 жыл бұрын
paramjit Kaur he went over how to pronounce Spanish syllables in an earlier video so it would a good idea to practice them and maybe read out a few basics words with that knowledge in mind. I’m still trying to get used to it as well

Hey there, you can find the transcript under FAQ at languagetransfer.org if it helps for confidence to see the words written and to understand an odd word you don't catch (like 'tough' you mentioned in another comment 😁), but for sure don't look at the transcript when you are thinking your answers out... that's very important :)

01:22 So why in "passion" the "sh" sound become "s" written as "pasión", however in "preparation" the "sh" sound became "s" written as "preparación"? Why does the English "sh" sound become "s" in one context and "c" in another? 04:00 Isn't it related to "firm" as in "solid", "hard", "bound tightly"? (which, in a way, making a signature under a document does, it "makes it firm" metaphorically). 04:12 Same here, it comes from "vert-", to turn, to twist, to switch sides (cf. "vertigo", "vortex"), and orientation, side. Co "to converse" is "to take sides together" (the participants of a conversation usually take sides in front of each other and they represent those sides in their discussion). 06:16 Ha! I use this trick too when I'm learning new languages :) I often start with just a bunch of "helper" verbs that I learn to conjugate fully (or just the first person to begin with), and attach other verbs in infinitives after them, which allows me to use them even before I've learned how to conjugate them :) 06:44 Does it keep the double "L"? 07:04 Speaking of the etymology of "explore", it came from Latin "ex-" (out of) and "plorare" = "to cry, to shout", and originally it meant "to shout (something) out (of somewhere)", as in when hunters make loud noises in the forest to cry out the prey from hiding. I like using etymology as a guide when I learn languages too, because it helps me understand these words and their structure better, and sometimes it also helps in finding similarities across languages even if they don't sound exactly the same anymore :)

This is such a good method. It's a shame that it is defiled by the over-inclusive explanations. The whole point of this language-production type of method is getting used to the language and becoming "fluent" with your small but growing patters/vocab. Here the detective method that is interpolated kinda defeats the whole purpose. You want your students to produce the language naturally, not to be thinking about rules and translating english to spanish. You want them just thinking and speaking in spanish.
@Codyslx2 жыл бұрын
Same, I've literally just started this week and i can make entire sentences in spanish, by playing with google translate for eg: Mi nombre es Supreme Cody y yo queiro majorar mi español. Or Yo realmente queiro comer ese manzana. I've learned in a few days more than i learned in 6 months of spanish classes in highschool. I'm striving to enhance my vocab enough to be able to engage in conversations on discord. That way I'll get tons of practice. This is such an effective method. I'll take actual classes after i complete this so i can gain more understanding going already having knowledge.
@mikaelangeloh23162 жыл бұрын
Defiled?? I’m sorry, but you’re so completely wrong here that I don’t even know where to begin. I don’t know what you think you’ve understood, but it certainly isn’t this method. It’s called Language Transfer and the Thinking method and that IS the purpose. Thanks to this, you don’t have a small vocab, you instead have access to 3000 words from English thqt you learn how to turn into Spanish by thinking and structuring, not memorizing. You learn how to construct the language from the ground up, by thinking. I think you need to go back to lesson 1 and start over, and maybe have some humble pie before you start. This IS a brilliant and meticulously thought out method, but you need to empty your cup first and allow it to work. Good luck!
