I like seeing this kind of video where perfectly adequate systems can be made with many things not bought on Ebay for a fraction of the price, I made my buss bars with left over angled alloy for free working fine 4 years so far. Oxidization might be an issue so I might need to clean all the terminals periodically but otherwise all good. The amount of money saved can be vast when you diy it turning the financial viability around completely compared to buying off the shelf at 4x the price. Given how bent over my utility companies we are in many parts of the world this is a space where the difference it can make in your life is meaningful. So how did you come to the conclusion that compressing them isn't important enough to bother?......I don't want to use compression with my next build as it largely undoes the gains in energy densities increases over the last 5 years.

The first few batteries I made I compressed them. It just seems like a pain in the ass to do and i never saw any change in performance. I also don't have a way to accuracy or consistency apply a force and was never really clear exactly how many (N) was needed. That is purely my anecdotal experience and not based on rigorous scientific testing so I am sure others will disagree.

Yes the info provided is vague especially if its as important as some say it is, but until we see some long term testing we will never know. It looks like a lot of car packs dont put their batteries under compression.@@OurBlackCatCottage

This is awesome, thanks so much for this tutorial! Question: How long did it take you to top balance your cells using the 10 amp DC power supply? I've been trying to balance mine over the course of the past week. I know it will take awhile, but would love to get a ballpark figure for how long it *could* take to fully balance. Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I didn't see your question. It's only putting in 36 watts so if it is around half full it should take over 30 hours. Seems to take forever!

So if i want to build a 48v, would i just build 2 separate 24v and connect them in series?
@OurBlackCatCottage
@OurBlackCatCottage 8 ай бұрын
You could but actually I would suggest you look into just get a 16S BMS and making one 48v battery

@OurBlackCatCottage I love the idea of building one of these batteries especially if it's worth it but I'm not sure it is anymore for the price of the grade A cells I'm seeing. Lately I'm seeing some server rack 48v 100 ah batteries like aolithium for $1099. That's a good price and hard to justify the involvement of building a battery.

To make it more safe is it better to put Dc breaker or Dc fuse on positive and negative?? And what is the current value for this breaker.. Thanks...

@@OurBlackCatCottage yep, cells just came in. about to top balance. i see you went to 3.6 vs 3.65. is that just for safety or longevity reasons?

Deciding either by a 24v 100ah or build 24v 280ah for 100$ more im in tijuana so things are a lil bit more expensive

is it necessary to charge these battery after you build them? i dont have a charger. can i just directly plug it in the inverter?
@OurBlackCatCottage

You need to top balance them before you build it then keep them charged up with your solar panels.
