One of the biggest things I look for is the arrival high C is clear and in tune. The arrival needs to be definitive & uncompromising, before any vibrato starts. So many players arrive flat and it sounds like the glissando hasn't ended yet. By the way, the video looks great! What camera/lens setup are you using?

That's a fantastic point, I wish I had included it in my video! And thank you, I am using a Fujifilm XT-3 with the 18-55mm F2.8-4 kit lens.

I love the explanation of voicing and the exercise. So much fun to strive to play the Rhapsody 50% backwards. :) Subscribed

Hey so not to be picky (or greedy!), but how can this be a "Complete Tutorial" when you only cover the frist measure? It would be great to hear you explicate the rest of the solo!

Great tutorial! Looking forward to more. Is your head actually as tilted as it looks here when you play? I suspect it's the camera angle making it look that way.
@ParkHouseCreations3 жыл бұрын
Good question! I definitely look down a little when I play, as I typically play between my knees when sitting down and I’m reasonably tall. I think the camera angle is making the angle look more severe than it actually is though!

Have been binging your channel and love your work. I reallty like these technical kind of vids but also your reviews on reeds, mouthpieces, barrels and the sort. This video is really helpful and I was wondering if a similar video would be possible for Artie Shaws clarinet concerto, It has some really tricky glissandos in the altissimo register. It would be cool to see how you approach those.

Hey Shaun, glad the videos have been helpful/enjoyable! It’s been a few years since I’ve looked at the Artie Shaw concerto, but I’ll add it to the list of pieces to do a practice vlog about!

@@ParkHouseCreations that's great! but ofcourse only when you want too, most important is you doing stuff you like, that's most enjoyable for all of us 👍
