Going there for 6 days later this summer! Is there anything cool happening there between 5-11 august? We are a young couple. How is the nightlife during this period?
@ThePackIsOne3 ай бұрын
@@bart170 In August will be pretty hot for sure, I would definitely stay as much as possible near the beach during the day, in la playa de la Victoria one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe for sure. Playa de Cortadura is never overcrowded if you mind the crowd. For nightlife you will find plenty of options in the old town (la Punta de San Felipe comes to mind, or some places around Plaza San Francisco and Plaza de Mina, but if you are stayin in the new town you can also find good clubs and pubs by the beach promanade. For events, concerts, and other cultural stuff you can go to the tourist office in Plaza de San Juan de Diós or by the harbor in Canalejas, also nearby ,and stay informed by the friendly assistant there.

I went to Cadiz last May as soon as they opened the borders in Spain. It was amazing to see the city somewhat vibrant again yet be one of the few tourists at the time. Gaditanos (people from Cádiz) might be the absolute friendliest people in Spain. Lastly, Cádiz is particularly interesting not only because it’s the oldest city in the western world, but because it has rich history that connects the Americas to Europe. Absolutely fascinating for someone who loves history in not only Spain but the entire Spanish-speaking world. Un saludo a los dos.

I lived in Europe for 8 years, Italy, Germany and Turkey. And traveled extensively, but to my utter astonishment, never got to Spain! I plan to rectify that later this year or early next year for a couple months of exploration. I've been watching your videos now for a year and normally, I hate videos where couples explore cities, because the videos seem to be more about the couple and less about the area of interest. The reason I like your videos so much is you focus on the region/city/area, but the two of you are so damned likable that you enhance the video rather than detract from it. Oh, and congratulations on the birth of your child. Keep'em coming. (Videos and/or children....)

This is amazing to see what my ancestors did and what they established so thank you for these videos. I am from California so very little is taught to the children about the Spanish contributions except NEGATIVE information. Maybe this stems from the Protestants who came here from England long ago who had a long history and being the enemy of Spain. However there is a constant bashing of the Spanish culture continues today especially in California. They constantly berate the Spanish contribution and focus only on the negative while ignoring the English etc.. It is ok you don't have to do air quotes for Columbus discovering the Americas he was the first documented European to discover the New World. The trend to rewrite history on a narrative that was built on bigotry of the English and later Americans who hated the Spanish and the Catholics continues even today. Columbus is also my ancestor so I am not ashamed of his contribution to the New World, I am proud of it. I do not need to apply modern values of our era to people of that era for absolution. I am VERY proud of my Spanish language, ancestors and CULTURE. This is why I like your videos I literally puff up with pride so thank you very much for the beautiful videos. :D

When I was a student there in 1970, we stayed at a school I think called "Colegio Mayor", with a Padre Bilbao who was in charge. The address they gave us to say if we got lost was "Lopez Pinto Ochentaydos". I've tried to find it on Google Maps, but no luck. It was very close to the beach. Also, I remember going to a restaurant/bar called the Lighthouse where Christopher Columbus used to hang out. We sat in a booth that extended out into a small balcony and we drank pitchers of sangria. The waiters told us not to move around because the balcony was very old and we might cause it to break off, ending in our deaths. A great way to deal with American teenagers, some drinking for our possibly first times!

Cadiz is also the birthplace of Spanish constitutioanlism. Sitting in a small parish, the wrtiers of the 1812 constitution drafted this foundational document, which spoke of the Spanish territories throughout the world -from Alaska to Patagonia in the West and the Philippines in the east- whilst surrounded by French canons and troops.

Hi James and Yoly, I am one of your subscribers. You guys are great! Your videos are always so informative, engaging, and entertaining. I always enjoy watching them. I also have lived in New Zealand for a short period of time and so I love how James compares the two countries and cultures sometimes. I can relate to it! And I totally agree, as you’ve mentioned several times in your videos, one would have a much richer experience visiting Spain as well as better understanding and appreciation of the Spanish culture if one could speak the local language. I live in the United States and I am learning Castellano right now and studying Spanish culture as much as I can. Your videos help me tremendously! But I am thinking, it would be so great if you could make some of your videos in Castellano! Any plans for it? I believe it would be so attractive to many people who want to move to Spain or even just to visit it, like myself! I’ve watched many different KZbin channels created by local Spanish folks but most of them lack dialogues and most of the time they represent a point of view of just one person. You are another story! You always relay your stories from two separate points of view. You talk to and introduce local people and that make me always feel like I am right there, it helps me to immerse, so to say. What do you think about making some videos in Castellano? Thank you very much once again! Alexander
