Completely Dead Battery on a Rivian R1S, none of the doors open! What now?

It finally happened to us!! The Rivian has been sitting in the shop for a few days and the battery completely drained to 0!! None of the doors open and none of the lights turn on, what now? How do I open the doors on a completely drained EV battery? What If I'm stranded in the middle of no where with no source of power? I am glad the Lightning does not have the vampire drain issue and a manual charge door port cover. I am surprised that the trucks software would let the truck get into this state without going into some sort of conservation mode.

Nope. I have an R1T with the latest software and vampire drain is real, 1-2% per night (about 3-6 miles). Too much tech crap stuffed into the truck. That is with everything disabled too, like gear guard, phone as a key, wifi, hotspot, inverter, etc.

This is not the correct way to jump the 12v. Make sure you reference the Rivian owners manual for the correct procedure.

That would be awesome, but how are you supposed to see the owners manual if it's on the dash and the vehicle is completely dead?

@@directcurrentengineering9023 It's 2023, I googled it on my phone in 30 seconds. There was a port on the right side of the hitch with a positive and negative cable that you could have used. This was totally unnecessary, but interesting nonetheless.

Not great. Procedure to jump the primary 12v is spelled out on p.31 of Rivian’s Tow Operator Guide. @@fmonkno it’s great to have another option. I have had my truck for over a year. I know the way to do it via the manual. What’s great is learning other ways to do things and if you watch the video the first thing he mentions is that they could do it the standard way but they’re are trying something new.

@@directcurrentengineering9023 But it’s the wrong way to jump any vehicle. And here’s why: any given 12V accessory or light or anything is behind a fuse and/or a relay. You can run a relatively low amperage trickle charger though any accessory or other 12V device (usually) because the amperage is low. But connecting a battery directly to a 12V accessory port may drive amperage greater than the circuit allows. That tow harness wasn’t designed for jumping. And it’s harder to do than accessing the two leads designed for jumping that are right next to it. Other cars have this feature/workaround as well. I wouldn’t defend this as another way to do something. People out there could potentially cause issues with their trucks because they “saw it on KZbin”

This is what happens when you want to make a video that should never exist due to lack of knowledge. Many people will watch this and try to firgure out a wiring pattern rather than use the factory provided way that is 100 times easier.
