Michael, I've stripped 2 yfz450's and 2 450r's down to the frames. That looked fairly easy, compared to the newer 4 stroke bikes, with all of the parts on them. But I can only imagine how many bolts were frozen and stripped on a 30+ year old machine! Nice work! And nice editing!

hey man you could do trx450r front spindles and hubs . they are lighter have more turning radius and you can use 2012 and up yfz450r front brakes way better and for the rear you can get from BVC trikes for a rear brake stay mount to put on trx450r rear brake calibers once again best you can do with brakes will stop on a dime

Next time you have a seized swingarm bolt,try cutting off the head,then with an 6 sided socket and 4 foot cheater bar,put a nut on the other side and Jack it out,and keep putting spacers under the nut.at the same time as the jacking pressure, give it a few wacks (soak it in anti seize,the night before )

@quadvloggs68765 жыл бұрын
When you said you had to cut a swingarm off I was wondering if you ever try heat when stuff like that happens it's always a miracle worker along with an air impact gun just a tip I guess
@jfisher3425 жыл бұрын
I was going to suggest the same. Had to change out a cracked LTZ400 swingarm on my brother in laws quad. I was just about to give up on the swing arm bolt when I said to him "I have one last idea". I got my air impact gun with the hammer tip and started hammering away. took about 30 seconds but then I noticed it starting to move. We punched it out pretty quickly after that. The bolt had a solid rust coating. I will never try removing another one any different way. My brother in law couldn't have been more excited and surprised when he saw how easy it was to remove using that tool.

Great video. Saying a stuck swingarm bolt is a pain in the dick is being kind. I had one stuck in an XR 400 project I bought, no amount of rest penetrant, beating on it, heat, welding a nut on the large end to get more torque with a breaker bar or putting it in a hydraulic press would free it up. It had to be cut out. When it came out, it looked like had never, ever, been removed from the frame. That didn't surprise me given what the other bearings looked like.

14:47 . Is using a jack the proper way to bind something opposite of what is being torqued? When I removed the governor washer on my dad's quad, the flywheel (I think) spun freely, and l had to shove a 2x4 into the teeth of the thing in order to remove the bolt in the center.

Had several 86's and eighty 7's TRX's thru the years. By the time I was done riding and racing them they were pretty much trashed and I bent a few frames in crashes. Finally moved up to to a YFZR in 09, have had it ever since. Don't ride much like I used to but fun to watch you millennials try your hand at it. You seen like a genuine dude, Mike, good luck. Oh, BTw - Rob Selvy built my first CR250 race motor back in 85. Ontario, California.
