In the third example, I think you made a mistake. The end part of it "+5-2^2" you solved it as 5-4=-1 when it should actually be 1. It has changed the answer from (-2, 2) which was correct to (-2, -2) which is incorrect if I'm right

It’s actually easier by expanding, but this method is specified in our igcse questions so we have to learn it
