Michelle Liandro He did not have to factor. I will break it down. It is ten plus ten "I" divided by ten. The ten in the numerator goes to both terms. Ten divided by ten is one. Ten times "I" divided by ten is "I". So, it equals one plus "I". BTW, the "I" is always lower case.

a helpful thing to remember is that there's only 4 possible answers for i to any power. i to the 1st, 5th, 9th, etc (it goes by 4s) is always the square root of -1, or i. i to the 2nd, 6th, 10th, etc is always -1. i to the 3rd, 7th, etc is always -i, and i to the 4th, 8th etc is always 1. If you actually write down and break up those i's you'll see that there's a pattern. So the i (to whatever power) terms you put in complex numbers will never be too complicated

Because it's only multiplication, there is no order to the way you should do it. Just pick two complex numbers, and multiply them with one another. After you got the sulotion to that action, multiply it with the complex number you haven't used yet, for example: (1-i)(-1+i)= (-1)+i+i+i² = (-1) + i + i + (-1) = [2i - 2] Now you take this solution and multiply it by the one we didn't use: (3+i)(2i-2)= (-6) + 6i + (-2i) + 2i² = [ -8 + 4i ]
