I’m grateful to have had such an awesome teacher like you!

This series answers every question I've ever had concerning punctuation but was never given answers for. Ironically, teachers still expect us to know these rules without even explaining them and take away marks in writings because of them. It 's as if it's something we should all know.

I think the reason why #3 is a simple sentence is not only because there is one subject, but also that there is only one verb: The only verb that interacts with the subject "airlines" is "continue". The raising of fees and the reduction services happen at the same time and that there is an inverse relation between the two over time is the idea here. As you have mentioned a simple sentence can have one idea and I think that one idea here is the continuing inverse correlation between the two. So "airlines continue to a) reduce sevices and b) raise fees for the customer." with an emphasis on "continue".

Can you help me correct the article below? Mari was clever and helpful in the family as well. She did not go out like her brothers. She was always at home watching her mother cooked food. When she was on halidays, she did not learn herself. She taught herself to sing and dance with her siblings. She attended the LWB Family Sangkran and danced with friends after meals and then she went to the pagoda with her siblings and mum. For her home activities, she helped to do some of house works. She helped collect clothes and kept them as she usually did before. She was not sick, she stayed heathy and strong as normal this month. There was no concern about her this month. She wasn't afraid of others anymore.

I know right! At school they just tell you use a variety of sentence structures: compound, simple..etc. without even explaining what each one means and even when they do, it's just for a few 5 minutes without giving us any exercises to practice in order to make the concepts stick!

Hi. This is a transcript from a video. I have a couple of questions. First, the two sentences share the same adjective (problems). Does this mean there is a comparison of the same idea because it shares the same description? That is, the speaker is equating cancer and addiction? Secondly, how would you combine the two sentences to make one sentence? Thank you.

Love the show and have now watched many episodes. Question: At 20:05 here, the sentence reads, "The man, who I had never met before, was looking at me strangely." Shouldn't the introducing relative pronoun be "whom" (because it's the *object* in its own clause)?
@paulosandsten9837 жыл бұрын
That is correct. However, there are times when you don't use whom even when the grammar say so as it sounds unnatural. Just an assumption; therefore, you shouldn't take my answer for granted.
@shaunmacleod23717 жыл бұрын
You're right. It's a good example of the battle between rules and usage. "whom" would be grammatically correct, but in common practice, people simply say "who". Thanks for watching and for the comment!
