How is everything getting more complex in the universe if its just how we see it and precieve it and understand it are. It was like that already.... ?

Maybe because consciousness is fundamental, not matter? So the brain is just a high level processing unit of something that existed before it, which is consciousness. In short: Consciousness doesn’t arise out of matter but matter(the brain) processes consciousness. Now to create matter that processes consciousness at the level our brain does is incredibly complex…

Eric Chaisson puts forth a decent definition of complexity. It's objective with respect to human existence.

if I were looking for alien life or alien biology / technology, I'd take the smallest unit of life (cell) and then I'd look for markers within that small unit that would be a tell for intelligence. As it turns out, every living cell has a 6.5-foot-long string of quaternary code that is decipherable, and editable with predictable results that instructs the cell in how to function. Even our own computer coding mimics this approach. lines of code rather than an instruction book. It also self-replicates in an extremely complex manner and all from the star dust and water available here on the planet. I'd say THAT is a tell of intelligence in design. you're looking at a very small machine when peering at a cell and each cell has a self-replicating operating program. We call it biology and even suggest with amazing hubris (because it's a part of us I guess) that this process was accidental when it bears all the hallmarks of technology

All nice and dandy, but what if you would encounter non-cell or non- hydrogen/carbon based life forms? Or life forms that don’t resemble biology syestems as we know them?

So to see alien life, we must wear different glasses? I'm lost.
