"We need a gimmick" is actually a song literally making fun of themselves. Well, almost their entire catalog is them making fun of themselves. The joke is that the whole band is a gimmick of sorts. And that, in of itself, is the draw of the band. If you wanna continue with them, try "Dressed as Goblins" or "Bears" next
@somMelon

I will note that Dressed as Goblins is from their newest album and there is a music video for it.

Like Slipknot were always accused of being a gimmick band but their intent was always to be true first. Nekrogoblikon is a gimmick first but they end up being ''deep'', more ''actually good'' than ''deep''. But that's how I see it, as a reverse of the times in a way.

Nekrogoblikon is a great band, they typically fall into the folk/melodeath side of things. I think their newest album, Welcome to Bonkers, is there best work. Musically interesting, huge variety of sounds, while maintaining their goofiness. Powercore isn't the best representation of their sound, it's more straightforward and generically heavy than a lot of their stuff.

Nah, bro, we love the Goblikon for the whole package. The Magic Spider is a f'ing jam... Edit - Composition-wise, I'm gonna have to throw up The Fall of Troy - A Man, A Plan, A Canal... Panama.

Huh, funny that you didn't choose "We need a gimick" because it seems untypical to you. I'd say that this would be more typical of Nekrogoblikon than "Powercore". But hey, what's typical about a band that announces that they make music to aing about goblins and then plays "Bears". :D PS: my personal recommendations for Nekrogoblikon are Bears, Dragons, Goblin Island and Prince of the Land of Stench. Well, and for some more catchyness: Magic Spider

Powercore is supposed to be a representation of Power metal mixed with break downs. It's kind of a one off. So in an odd way you picked the wrong one if you didn't want a gimmicky song. We Need A Gimmick is actually probably a better representation of their music lol.

I don't know that you or ANYONE, honestly, really listened to the earlier Nekrogoblikon - where they were more folk / melodeath, and very raw sounding. they kinda blew up at "No One Survives", and no one listened to anything before that.

If you don't mind listening to an instrumental song, here is an unpopular band - The Weight Lifted. They have only 3 songs and, sadly, aren't producing any music right now. I would suggest listening to either their first song "Ezekiel" or "Joshua I" and "Joshua II" together. All of them are great IMO. They don't have a music video, but they have a guitar playthrough of Ezekiel that you can watch.

If you want more of that "catchyness" in metal, I'd highly recommend listening to some Frost*, their lead singer/keyboardist used to write pop songs and started applying that to prog metal. I'd say listen to Experiments in Mass Appeal, Towerblock, Black Light Machine, or if you want an epic, Milliontown.

I have a lot of under-requested bands that I think would be great to react to! Cheetos magazine-chili Guillermo, they sound like if the band at chucks cheese played prog. Agolloch- and the great cold death of the earth, they are black metal technically but play mostly atmospheric acoustic stuff. David maxim micic- any song is great but living room would be a good representation of his current sound. He is a master composer and play. He does instrument of every song himself

The Nekrogoblikon song no one else will mention, for some reason, is Invasion. The reason you need to listen to this one is- well, the top comment on one video is "Everytime I listen to this song, I shit myself it's so good." That whole album (Stench) is great for filthy heaviness and interesting composition.

Ah I've seen their name but never listened. Very fun, lots of tricks I enjoyed. Maybe they'll never be one of my favorites in the world but I won't overlook them again :P Dying for you to get to Sleep Token, I understand it's quite a process, but according to what your input is on what you like it's really going to tickle you.

@paravarium
@paravarium 4 жыл бұрын
Totally get it, like i said, it's a process haha. I'm not feeling personally slighted or an entitled snowflake. Just maybe overenthusiastic! Sleep Token is still relatively new, but I really haven't been this obsessed with a project since I was like 22 (35 now). Trying to stay vague about why I like them so you can have no expectations other than my usual input on songs. :p one other reason they're probably not going to be requested much is because prog snobs don't like to see them as prog. They're not a band that spams you technical ability and time signatures. The intricacy is in the flow and the detail, and the way they bring unexpected genres together. Honestly the reaction would be really cool, i hope it comes up some day, but I'm just happy to join in the sharing of so many of my favorite bands that wind up on your channel.
