Was not expecting these guys to be featured on your channel, but am very pleasantly surprised. Oranssi Pazuzu (translates to Orange Pazuzu) is a sort of continuation of another band called Kuolleet intiaanit (The Dead Indians), known for their surrealistic and psychedelic soundscapes and theatrical performances, but with heavier sound. So far they've released 5 albums and this song is from their latest album. You could say that they're kind of an acquired taste, it can be hard to get into but then again, if you keep listening, eventually it tends to just click and suddenly you understand and see the patterns in the chaos, much like The Dillinger Escape Plan, for example. If you're up for some more stuff, I'd warmly recommend "Dub kuolleen porton muistolle" ((A) Dub to the Memory of the Dead Harlot) from their debut album, "Muukalainen puhuu" from 2009, or for (much) longer song (but probably my all time favorite from them), "Vasemman käden hierarkia" (Hierarchy of the Left Hand) of "Värähtelijä". Such a great, great song - 17 minutes of pure hypnotic, psychedelic bliss.

Great song recommendations, those are 2 of my favorites. Whenever "hierarkia" comes up in my shuffle, I'm forced to turn it way up. I've watched a number of their live performances on KZbin and it seems to be a common closer for them, which is perfect.

‘Vasemman’ is a great song, fit to close an album on the high. it also kills live. mine favourite as an opener is ‘Vino Verso’ that is almost the same breed, a huge riff to board on immediately. and then come the synths.

One of the most interesting Black metal bands currently for sure, really experimental stuff
@ProgPro963 жыл бұрын
Yes the band is Finnish and yes the ambient part at the end is in the album version as well, it actually goes on for a couple minutes longer and serves as a transition into the next track. They're considered psychedelic black metal and one of the few bands of that style out there, really unique stuff.

Great song, great video, great band and yes, the ambient sounds are on the album as well. I think the finish language is effecting your feel of the vocals. I think the vocals are pretty close to typical black metal growls, with slightly better enunciation than normal (for black metal). But they are in finish which is quite monotonous sounding language (at least if you can't understand it). Similar thing happened in your Moonsorrow video, for a finish speaker the vocals were very emotional while you described them as lacking emotion (or something like that). Great analysis as well :)
@CriticalReactions3 жыл бұрын
Definitely could be a language barrier thing, especially if I've made the same comment about another vocalist in the same language. I'll try to be more aware of that when I look at song that are sung in a language I don't understand.

This was awesome! Never heard of these guys, but I guess you'd call this psychedelic black metal? Never heard that combination in my life, but I'm shocked by how well it works. Not sure if I have much critical insight to add, but I'll definitely be exploring these guys in the near future.

Yep! A few other of my favorite are (with an album Rec) - A Forest of Stars- Beware the Sword you Cannot See - Hail Spirit Noir- Pneuma - Wormlust- The Feral Wisdom - Cage of Creation- Into Nowhere II - Nachtmystium- The World We Left Behind All are slightly different styles of psychedelic BM but thought you might find one you enjoy!

Yeah, ambient is also present in the studio version, it’s also 10 minutes, so this video version is a little trimmed.

Awesome selection! As a relatively new metal listener, I stumbled upon Oranssi Pazuzu newest album last year. I was pretty mindfked! I’d never heard anything like this before- it was like listening to what it would be like for Alice to fall down the rabbit hole! Needless to say it became one of my top 2020 albums and kicked me off on a psychedelic black metal binge…what a really cool genre mashing. My buddies and I were doing a “metal Monday” album review newsletter. Here’s a snippet of my introduction… To me, these two genres fit perfectly together. First off, they're both weird AF. Sometimes they're a WTF weird and others a "woah, this is awesome” weird, but overall, they tend to break the mold of typical genres. Weaved together, the opportunity for some insanity arises. This leads to my second point, both are FU's to the norm. Black metal started as a rebellion against Christianity and other social norms (I'm not supporting these and we can have a separate conversation about the (dis)entanglement of music, ideologies, and sometimes influence on behaviors). The entire Psychedelic scene was inspired by the effects of LSD and other hallucinogens. Lastly, I find their contrasts dance harmoniously. The tones of the guitars, spacing between notes, the vastness of the synths all create a chillaxed atmosphere. From the shrill shrieks and blastbeats to the lack of silence during the songs, black metal embodies insanity at its climax. @seijidaitai3 жыл бұрын
@@frazer8 When the album dropped, they posted a video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX-XoaKQmJmcfbc) about the concept behind it: an occult leader using mind control spells to indoctrinate followers and establish a new order and dystopian nightmare. But they also said they used more synths to make it sound more alien, so there ya go!

Perfect Halloween choice! The "avant-garde" in this is utilised perfectly to enhance the horror effect! The video adds to the experience. Glad someone chose this for you and that you could appreciate it for all the right reasons. Liked it since I first heaed it (and the band) last year's summer.

That was nice. I'm liking the Halloween theme you are doing. I haven't listened to black metal in a while. Except for the Infant Annihilator video I watched a few months ago. I heard Dimmu Borgir about 10 years ago and that was when I realized the difference between death metal and black metal. I could be way off, I'm just a fan of music. BTBAM is more my taste overall. I like heavy mixed with melodic. It's great work-out music. I like your technical analyses and the different bands you bring to your channel.

I'm still working my way into death and black and all of the heavier subgenres. They're still usually a bit much for me to listen to casually.

Yup! I think I did this persona last year but only for the video that landed *on* Halloween. The community has dubbed it "Emo Bryan" and it's a fan favorite despite the limited exposure. I just wish I could analyze music while keeping it up -- that's apparently too much work for the ol' brain though 😀

this track is from the most recent album, its a good album but i feel like the previous one was their best work and easily 9/10, so if you ever plan to revisit some weird oranssi pazuzu i'd recommend something from Värähtelijä, or if you want to try something in a similar vein but still quite different check out a track from Aluk Todolo - Voix (its occulty rock/metal, pure instrumental)

For Halloween themed songs, some Ghost might be appropriate. Or maybe something more metal, like CoB - Platitudes and Barren Words. Dimmu Borgir or Cradle of Filth works nicely too. Or the classic Candlemass - Bewitched :D

Cool reaction and review, so glad you checked this band. 'Mestarin kynsi' to me is the best album in 2020, and this song is not even the best one of that LP. Psychedelic black metal? that is cool concept for the wikipedia, but Oranssi Pazuzu music has such number of intricate layers and subtle elements that is not that simple to classify them. I've been listening during more than a year I am still glimpsing new stuff every time. Just two things: They are amazing live, just check YT. For them is very important that the audience be aware of the lyrics meaning, even is in Finnish, translation are available in the net.
