The subtitles are wrong at one point: He didn't say, that his minimalistic music got something "heroic". He said, that this kind of minimalist music got something "archaic". That is an important difference.

I have an enormous love for a well-done soundtrack, and when I first watched this film, the score immediately made it on my "favorite soundtracks of all time" list. I cry every time I watch this movie at a few different scenes, and my emotion is in part due to the accompanying music. I have never felt such exact and intense emotion from a soundtrack alone aside from the movie 1917. Something about excellently done WWI movies and their soundtracks hold a special place in my heart.

Delighted to see this. The soundtrack was surprisingly strong; I'd have normally found the ahistorical and relentless techno-like three-note motif objectionable as a distraction, but that sound heard in "Remains" amazes me as a totally symbiotic layer of incidental music, and a dramatic through-line (feels like a deus ex machina). Certainly deserves the Oscar, far more than anything else nominated (or almost-nominated, such as the barely-used and overhyped "score" to Tár composed by the Icelandic video game composer person).

Remains is a great track, but in my opinion the most impressive track is "Bomb Crater". The fluttering noise just makes me visualize a WW1 Fighter plane idling at high altitude protecting a bomber formation. I've no idea if that was the intent, but when the music can invoke imaginative settings without lyrics, I'd say it's very well composed. I love listening to the AQoWF soundtrack when I'm working and just want a good think.
