This is fascinating! This is a great informative guide, now I know way more about hot and cold compost. Well done by the narrator. This video simplifies the process composting that most “common” folk wouldn’t decompose.

I love the container made of branches and cornstalks! Hollyhock stalks would probably work well, too.

SO hot turns out soil quicker, and need to monitor temp. Mix brown & green and chop up greens and put into layers. But I'm not clear what was different with cold method though, it takes longer and you do it if you don't have enough material to do one big batch? ANy other differences?

You've correctly identified the difference between hot and cold - if the pile doesn't get hot, the decomposition process will just take longer. A hot pile requires the a sufficient volume to generate enough heat, as well as active turning to keep the pile aerated and moist. If don't have enough material to meet 3 ft x 3 ft. minimum size requirement, or just aren't interested in all that turning, cold composting will get you there too, with a bit more patience.

Could you use weed leaves for your greens?

So.. Reminds me of the videos i watched to be a nurses aid like 17 yrs ago!!! lol 😂 But which method holds on to the most nutrients and minerals?
@ctt5443 жыл бұрын
Cold retains more nutrients. Also, you don't need a bin or a hose. You can just make a pile on the ground

Love me some compost. Let's team up on a video. I teach Horticulture to 7th-12th graders here in Sacramento. I have a tiny garden channel and would love to collaborate with you fine folks.

If you piss or urinate on a cold compost pile it will heat up . Your welcome. Lol
