I think ppl forget these sites (and most cosplay in general) runs in asian sizes which are infamously small and why it's important to messaure. Its hard to tell as well sadly bc most of them wont tell u if they are asian sizing which leads to literal size discrepancies

I've never done the thing where a site shows a commission. My assumption is that they will make a generic pattern, or alter another one, to be similar to what you need. For example, if you need a cosplay that has a jacket that has a similar shape as Kirito's jacket from Sword Art Online, but looks slightly different, I would assume they might use that pattern, and alter it to be more like the one you need. But it would still only fit the measurements of that pattern's sizes, and not your measurements specifically.

How do you know if you're buying from a reputable site?

Sadly, you don't. It's easy to figure out on places like Amazon, Ebay, AliExpress, and other sites like those that are just a market with multiple shops, because each shop will have reviews. But the .com sites like I mention, there's no way to know other than word of mouth, which is subjective honestly. For the .com shops with cosplay/costume in their name, there isn't really "reputable vs non-reputable", because they are all the same kind of thing. None of those places are out to rip you off. if they were they wouldn't have sites anymore because they'd have so many compaints.

Good video. I have been trying to order one costume that all sites have the same picture of. I have ordered it 4 times now and all of them have been terrible, in a different way. Long shipping, hard and expensive to return and various other issues (ordered a medium "did you mean large? we will instead send you a large"). Was thinking of going with EZcosplay so now Im interested to hear this story.

To be fair, shipping and returns aren't are different from what I normally mean when talking these place. The main bad problems are when it's the actual quality. Shipping time being long is normal, that's just how shipping from China works. And returns are really difficult regardless of which one, because the language barrier is usually making it hard to communicate correctly. The problem of sending a different size though, did you measure it and make sure it actually was the same measurements as their large? That should have been an easy exchange and no reason for them to not do it. I ask, not because I'm saying you're lying, but because a lot of people measure themselves wrong, and then wonder why things don't fit right. Also the EZCosplay story is honestly just boiled down to "The costume was probably sent from one of the other warehouses, that makes it differently".

@@JeiCos I have ordered from China previously so I am familiar with the process and months of waiting. The issue I have had lately is that I wait months for the wrong costume to arrive. This past one was sent to a state 20 hours away somehow. The one before that was horrible. The one before that is the large that was sent to me. I measured prior and always check their measurement facts. I am a 31 waist and what they sent was a 36 to 38. It was massive. But the hunt continues. I will keep trying them till I find one that works. I was just hoping that one site was consistent.

@matquisa7769 i would say if you want one that looks like movie quality, or even close to that, no. What you'll get from protoplasm, or any other site like them, is gonna be generic cosplay quality. For western characters like super heros, there are some places that make good ones that aren't these Chinese cosplay sites. They are more legit licensed costume shops. You'll get far better lookomg ones from those places. Sadly I don't cosplay super hero related stuff, so I have no idea what these sites are. I'd try reddit to see what suggestions you can find.

How come different cosplay websites have different size charts

The same reason any store does: not every manufacturer makes sizes exactly the same. This happens everywhere, even in the US. I can go to Walmart and find 3 different pairs of pants the same size that all fit different

I think the chances are close to zero. If you happen to fit one of the sizes like small, medium, large and so on, that MIGHT get sent out faster, as well as choosing one of the faster shipping that costs more, but even then, there's still a chance that's too soon.

I actually have a playlist on my channel where I do that now. The Sora one I mentioned is the only one I've had that problem with with EZCosplay, and haven't had anything all that bad since. But I do mention in each review, where I got them from, as well as link to them.

Deadpool being one of, if not THE most popular comic based character, there should 100% be places in the US that have them. Any Halloween store right now will likely have that. This video is not about super popular western characters. It's more for stuff that isn't gonna be sold at Halloween stores. This is strictly about the types of sites I specifically mention, and the ones like them. There ARE online shops in the US that do western made character' costumes like Star wars, marvel and DC stuff. I don't cosplay comic stuff so I have no reason to look for those shops, so I can't help at all.

I don't really recommend any of them more than any other. They are all the same thing. It would be like if I wanted to buy a button down shirt, and someone said "Well you can go to Fred Meyer (Kroger), Walmart, or Target", and I asked "Which one do you recommend?" Every single place you buy cosplays like this, have the exact same process, and the exact same risks, and will be the exact same level of quality. They only might slightly look different depending on what specific details any given sweatshop warehouse does.

@@MightBeChill There are not. I mean, there's a few anime stores in malls that sell these cosplays, but they only have whatever small amount they have in stock. Usually it's whatever the most popular anime is at the time, and nothing else. But they get them from those same warehouses from China. The ONLY way to get a cosplay that's made in the US, is to find a commissioner. In which case, look at my "cosplay tips and tricks" playlist (One of the things on the end screen of this video), because I have a video just like this one, but for that topic. The only other option for finding one in the US is hoping someone is selling their used one in your size.

@@MightBeChill I haven't ordered from CosSky, but I THINK they are the company SkyCosplay, but with a new name, since that site doesn't work anymore. If that's the case, then that one should be fine. I've never heard of SimCosplay before, but I would assume they (as well as CosSky) are the same as all the others. Rush shipping isn't worth it because it won't EVER come fast enough to make a difference. Since they take a while to get your order shipped out, that defeats the entire point of rush shipping in the first place.
