Even if I thank you one million time it will not be enough for such a simple solution.

I'm guessing these are caused by truss uplift, seeing how close they are to the wall/ceiling junction. Wouldn't using a screws just make it likely that a crack would develop at the wall ceiling junction? Seeing as there is no float in that drywall anymore? When the truss rises, the ceiling drywall has no choice but to go with it, thus separating from the wall drywall panel. I'm having this problem and am thinking of just pulling the nails and leaving them out. Maybe use a screw a little further down the joist.

HI, Not sure about drywall needing to float. I think most houses today are using screws for installing drywall instead of nails.. I think the pops may be caused by temperature and humidity fluctuations over time as the wood will expand and contract causing the nails to back out...
@kimh.2515 Жыл бұрын
That makes so much sense-the only place I have mail pops is my second story, and above is the very hot and humid attic. @@TheHomeImprovementChannel

Got a tip for drywall tape that keeps acting up? I've got tape joints in ceiling drywall in a garage I've replaced 3times. I've tried paper tape, fiberglass tape and last time, I added some backing plywood along the seam and screwed the shit out of it. It's back again. :-( On the plus side, I've gotten really good at shooting mud and knocking it down. Thanks!

Yea, I was going to say to add some screws to the joint, but sounds like you've already done that..

What size drywall screw should I use?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
Probably 1 1/4 or 1 5/8. It doesn't matter that much..😀

If the Sheetrock hole left by the nail as visible in the video what good is replacing it with a screw? It can’t possibly be supporting the Sheetrock with that hole through the sheet. Why put any fastener back in that hole? I tried all of these recommendations but the pops come back. There must be a gap between the sheet and the studs or there is flexing happening over time with atmospheric changes causing it to break out repeatedly on my ceiling. I guess I need to inspect what’s going on in the attic to be sure how this keeps happening.

HI, the original nails never went all the way through so the screw should still hold... But it would be better to put a screw in the new hole and just patch up the hole where the nail was. But yes, if there's a space under the sheetrock it will absolutely have a problem all the time. Even when you're installing sheetrock if you run into an area where the screw keeps sinking through, it's almost always caused by a gap behind the sheetrock.... What you might try to do is squirt some liquid nails through a hole where the problem is at... I'd get a pretty good amount in there so it spreads out and then let it dry over night. Try not to let it form a drip where the hole is or you'll have a fun time scraping it flat again!. That should hopefully fill up the gap and make it solid again...

That sounds like a good plan.

Is it normal for mail pops to appear after roof install? I had some repaired after the roof was installed and painted as well. Months later I have multiple pops and thought about going with the screws on each side of the hole but your method seems simpler. Advice?
@TheHomeImprovementChannel Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say "normal" but yes I've heard of that. Sometimes the roofing folks will thrown down an 80lb bundle of shingles when they're moving them around and it can cause that to happen. Especially if they do it multiple times throughout the process. Plus in some cases you've got several people up there at once and that wreaks havoc too... I don't see anything wrong with putting screws on each side of the hole. Just punch the nail back in that popped back or remove it all together incase it tries to pop back again and replace it with a screw.

@@TheHomeImprovementChannel Thank you so much! I just did 3 nail pops and removed the nail and replaced with drywall coarse screws with some construction adhesive to keep it in. So happy I didn’t need to add additional screws above or below the pops. You’re the man.

@@TejsWorld Awesome! Glad I could help. If you need to add more screws then I would do that too. Just cover the heads up with some spackle.. 😊😊

I followed others advice and put in screws on either side of the popped nail (after recessing the nail). A short time later I had a pop at the original nail and at the screws too! Now I have three pops at every nail pop location instead of one. I have two bedrooms with rows of these pops on either side of a shared wall....I think the drywall install was sloppy because there is "give" when you press up on the ceiling. I'm ready to hire a professional, I'm so done.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel2 жыл бұрын
Yes that's what's going on. There is a space between the drywall and the wood underneath so unless it's pulled up pretty tight, this will keep happening.
@jamezason2 жыл бұрын
Bummer! I was about to take this same approach. We’ve got these ceiling nail pops spread throughout our home. Definitely don’t want to tend to them more than once!
@coppingtonfarnham77312 жыл бұрын
@@jamezason The pops are mostly along a wall that divides two bedrooms, so both rooms have this issue along the same wall. I spent a lot of time trying to fix this problem, now am frustrated/disgusted. I half wonder if a drywall firm would be better off completely redoing the ceiling, but that would be a nightmare with insulation pouring down from the attic. I also wonder if this wall has sunken a fraction since the house was built in 1977, enough to be problematic.
@Slowcarfastbeans5 жыл бұрын
Screws have the same issue in my experience...either because they move (?) or because they rust and displace the compound until it cracks. This was observed in a bathroom on 3 screws.
@TheHomeImprovementChannel5 жыл бұрын
HUH.. I've actually never seen a screw do that.. Probably they rust.. I doubt if they're backing out. Thanks for the comment.. :-)
