Compress, Decompress, Zip & Unzip files in Linux || gzip, gunzip, bzip2, bunzip2 & tar Commands

Files Compression, Decompression, Zipping & Unzipping in RHEL 8:
-----------------------------------------------------
Compress Using gzip and bzip2 utility:
gzip filename
bzip2 filename
Decompress Using gunzip and bunzip2 utility:
gunzip filename.gz
bunzip2 filename.gz2
View Compressed Files zipped by gzip and bzip2 Utility:
zcat filename.gz
bzcat filename.gz2

TAR:
Zip several files into one using tar (Tape Archive) utility:
tar cf newname.tar file1 file2 file3
tar cf newname.zip file1 file2 file3
Zip and compress (using gzip) in tar utility:
tar czf newname.tar.gz file1 file2
Zip and compress (using bzip2) in tar utility:
tar cjf newname.tar.bz2 file1 file2 file3
Zip files with preserve permissions by tar utility:
tar cvpf newname.tar file1 file2 file3 file4
Unzip using tar utility:
tar xvf zipfilename.zip
tar xvf zipfilename.tar
tar xvf zipfilename.tar.gz
tar xvf zipfilename.tar.bz2
(where newname & zipfilename are used only for example, you can use different names as you wish).
