I’m a bit sappy and sentimental but I’m pumped Mike is there with you full time now. Re-watching the old videos here as I’m trying to figure out the prevost install and I here Mike say “and I say we do them all that way because otherwise how obsessed are we?” Made my day. I hope you guys have had an awesome thanksgiving and weekend and thank you for all the content over the years.

This place is already sick but I keep trying to imagine it with cabinets, tools, and some automotive CAD art on the walls ... you will have some quality time ahead of you here. This is the spot. OG mecca will be bursting at its seams soon.

I’ve always been a fan of copper ran air lines but I think you might have sold me on this system. The manifolds are well worth it in my opinion. And SS always adds class. Keep up the crazy Matt.

Pretty cool video. You might suggest that your install guy actually wears his safety glasses correctly when he drills the hole in the pearling. Reaching up like that is an easy way to get a chip in the Eye. 😢

Matt, Great Series! I've been at the "Air compressor Game" for 40+ years and just want to mention a few facts....... the more fittings, connections and valves you use the more leaks you are likely to have. In my experience there is no such thing as a 100% leak free system. Expect at least one or two cycles a day even if you are not using air. (note: my system is pressurized 24/7/365). Anywhere you have metal threaded parts I'd also use Pipe Dope as well as your Teflon Tape. You should keep your T's and connections to a minimum and you will be happier in the long run. The Automatic Tank Drains are sweet, but sometimes actually create problems. They sometimes stick and stay open too long - just something you might want to check on once in a while. I went back to manual tank draining and just open the ball valve and drain any moisture out at the end of the day. Takes only a minute and works well. Don't have to worry about auto valves failing. You're going to love the Jenny - mine works GREAT! Use their Blue Ultimate Oil when changing - it is an extremely high quality oil! It is actually rated better than Amsoil Compressor Oil which is at th etop of the list as well.

We were thinking the same thing about connections. We were able to build the entire loop and system without a single union other the the 90 or T necessary to make the transition. I'm super pleased how it all turned out. As of now we have no leaks. I will only be pressurized when I need it, so that might simplify things a bit.

BTW, the Provost is something I've not heard of 'till now. Looks quite impressive! The commonly sold "PEX" style is a pain to work with and does not allow for tight 90º corners - however it does eliminate many 90'º elbows. My current system is Premium USA hose from Speedaire. Not the 1" diameter of yours, but the best I could do at the time. Originally I installed the hose because it is flexible, easy to run, inexpensive and strong. Since I was snaking it through my home, the easy of running and flexibility was very important. In 23 years I have not found any excuse to replace it and it's still performs great. NOTE: any connections ever made with flexible rubber hose SHOULD have the crimp style connectors crimped with the Knipex Pliers. Never use typical hose clamps! Not only to they loosen but they cut the crap out of your hands. If I had the luxury of an opened space such as yours, I'd definitely go with your Provost system. PS: you were SPOT ON to NOT use the Home depot Chinese valves & fittings - they are pure rubbish! NOTE: Go on line and get your self proper Teflon tape! It's called Blue Monster. Thicker, stronger, and comes 1,400 inch's per roll. The absolute best I have found so far and it is OG BLUE!! :)

Ever try pipe thread sealant (pipe dope) instead of Teflon tape? I’m chasing leaks on my compressor and just re-made several connections using dope brushed on instead of tape. So far so good it seems.

This is good stuff! I didn’t realize making a loop was a thing but it does make sense. Is it also possible to have individual regulators at each manifold if you have tools that need different pressures?
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is probably preferred. I can't think of anything I'll be using at anything but 90 PSI, so I only need one.

I do pipefitting and my ocd was screaming because you guys put the lettering on show since I'm so used to being asked to hide it haha. Also with ball valves you should always Install them so they fall to off when putting them vertical!
@Patrick94GSR
@Patrick94GSR 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think it would be possible for a ball valve to "fall" to the off position with pressurized air inside.
@AmbroseUK
@AmbroseUK 6 жыл бұрын
Patrick94GSR I don't mean fall on its own. By fall I mean when you turn it to off the handle should go from vertical upright to horizontal right.
@Patrick94GSR
@Patrick94GSR 6 жыл бұрын
But does it really matter? Seems to me like it would make more sense for the handle to be parallel to the pipe when open, and have the handle "point" in the direction of airflow. So if it's on a drop coming down, the handle would point down (6 o'clock) when open, and turn clockwise to point left (9 o'clock) when closed.
@AmbroseUK
@AmbroseUK 6 жыл бұрын
Patrick94GSR Nah it doesn't really matter or affect anything, It's mainly to do with the strict health and safety at the factory I do work for. We've always done it that way as standard practice and that's how they ask it to be done so if someone fell and hit the handle it would always fall to off. Plus if there's writing on the handle, In my experience it is always the right way up when in the position I mentioned.

Sup, thank you for the video! what is you feedback on the Prevost fittings and overall pipe system after using since you posted the video? i am currently in the market for Prevost now and looking at my options based on other customer use feedback. any leaks, have you lost any air pressure or loss of cfm/scfm? Thanks

Looks great, but wouldn't have been easier and cheaper to use Copper pipping Type L with Pro Press fittings or SharkByte fittings? CPVC can also be used unless it won't pass the local codes in Florida.

If I was a marketing person at a tool company, I would send over one of those huge 15 feet tool cabinets with their whole line up and lend it to Matt until he builds his cabinets. Great way for SnapOn or Sonic to steal the exposure from Matt's usual use of Milwaukee tools...

The reducer showed on minute 21:40 it's a 1/2 male to 3/8 female? In your shop, I only see 1/2 male to 1/4 female. And the whip hose of the Coxreel it's 3/8 right? Thanks

FYI, when installing drops in your air line system, pull the air from the top of the pipe, instead of from the bottom. Reason, if there is moisture in the line, it's not as likely to get to your drop if your pulling air from the top of the pipe.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Why? Each drop has a manifold with a drain on it.
@joyfilters
@joyfilters 5 жыл бұрын
@@ObsessedGarage If for some unknown reason your refrigerated dryer quits, your compressor is going to pump water through your system. If you want to constantly drain your line, do it your way. This is just an added level of security to keep water out of the point of use. If the drop is taken off of the top of the "root" run, the entire pipe would have to be filled with water to get it to the point of use. Hope this helps.

Nice one Matt, that is looking fantastic. You will have a better air system than most professional workshops here in the uk. I can only dream of having a garage/workshop set up like the og but here in london that will never be a reality, space and land costs prohibitively expensive. Next week I will be ordering a 56" upper and lower tool chest combo and after having been in the motor trade 30yrs have finally decided to upgrade my socket rails system. As you were talking about tools etc, not sure if you have seen these as a consideration to the og store as some future point westlingmachine.com/ToolHolders.html I decided to indulge and have ordered some from the us, not a great fan of the metal clip type socket rails any more. Keep up the good work loving the install videos
