This was WAAAAAY tougher and more mentally demanding than anything I have seen on Professor Dion's exams. Thanks for the thorough walk through, ill probably go through all your pbq vids. This one was tough, I can consistently get above 70% on Dions practice tests but I couldnt tell you much about QSFP and brainstorm putting together switching for 7 Rack servers and a storage unit...

@@lilbroomstick7914 well, the nice thing is that you will not be getting a PBQ on the actual exam like this one. The idea behind these types of PBQs is to encourage critical thinking skills & Problem solving skills. Just keep at it, and if there is anything I can do to assist, please let me know! Thanks for watching!

I remember this question (or a very similar one), and it looked stupid the first time I saw it. Then I got a job and eventually had to deploy and configure massive Dell Data Domain systems. New people who will be working on servers and switches need to know this stuff!

Hello, I'm confused as to why you would need SFP+ for the ethernet connections, since Cat6 is already capable of doing 10gig speeds. If anything wouldn't the Twinax cables need the SFP+ since the ports shown on the server are for SFP? What part of the question indicates that we need SFP+ for the cat6 connections?

@@Node8 I’ve responded to a similar question on this. Please look thru the comments and let me know if you have further questions Remember too that this scenario is from CompTIA’s point of view which may differ from real world scenarios.

@@Node8 no worries. Btw, a question like this will NOT be on the exam. The idea is to get you to use critical thinking and up ur skills on problem solving. 😎 Let me know if there is anything else I can assist with.

I'm not seeing where this got 25 SFP+ modules? Can you help point that path out?

@@STINGREDDOG I start explaining it at around the 9min mark. And I also have another explanation at the end. What number did you come up with?
@STINGREDDOG
@STINGREDDOG 13 күн бұрын
@@JustCallMeRedK I got a count of 20. It's my understanding that Ethernet ports (in this case, the Cat6 ports) do not need SFP+ modules (these use standard RJ45 connectors, which do not require SFP+ modules. They connect directly to Ethernet ports on the switch.), but Twinax ports do. So I got that each server has 2 Twinax ports (10 Gb NFS storage ports). 7 servers × 2 Twinax ports = 14 SFP+ modules needed for the server connections. The storage unit has 4 Twinax ports, so 4 SFP+ modules needed. 18 SFP+ modules required + 2 spares = 20. Your explanation at the 9 min mark basically lined them up with the Cat6 ports, which I what I didn't understand. I'm sure I'm the one that is wrong here. Do RJ45s connect to SFP+ modules?

@@STINGREDDOG I’m currently on the road and not able to properly respond but will do so tomorrow. In regards to your question: Yes, RJ45 connectors can connect to SFP+ modules, but only if you are using a specific type of SFP+ module designed for copper connections, such as a **10GBASE-T SFP+ transceiver**. These modules have an RJ45 port and allow you to connect standard Ethernet cables (Cat6a or higher) to an SFP+ port on a network switch or other networking device. This setup is commonly used to provide 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections over copper cabling. So, while a standard SFP+ port is designed for fiber optic connections, using a 10GBASE-T SFP+ module allows it to be used with RJ45 connectors and copper Ethernet cables.

@@STINGREDDOG okay, you may not be wrong after all, so looking over it again, from what I’m seeing on 11:30 based off of CompTIA’s explanation; 7 servers x (3) 1 GB ports = 21 SFP+ Storage unit x (2) 1 GB ports = 2 SFP+ 2 spares = 2 SFP+ 21 + 2 + 2 = 25 These need to be able to go up to 10GBps. You are correct, but I did come across this for when you would need SFP+ modules. One would be Distance and Media Type: Longer Distances: If you need to run 10 Gbps Ethernet over distances greater than what CAT 6 can handle, or if you’re connecting devices using fiber optics, you would use SFP+ modules. SFP+ is typically used with optical fiber for longer-distance connections or with twinax cables for shorter distances within data centers. The other is Different Media: If you need to connect different types of media, such as copper (CAT 6) to fiber optic, SFP+ transceivers could be used to bridge these connections. In summary, if the network setup involves short runs and can meet its performance requirements using CAT 6 cables, you likely don’t need SFP+. However, for higher speeds over longer distances or specific network configurations involving fiber optics, SFP+ modules would be necessary. Soooo, looking at the scenario, it does not mention anything that would indicate that it would be for longer runs. ( unless you interpret that the ‘internal network’ would make it go past the max length for CAT6 ( for 1GB it’s 100 meters, for 10GB it’s 55meters) Since CompTIA explains that it would need it, I would assume that it’s either the max length or the different media type. CompTIA is not giving us any better explanation on this PBQ, but you do bring up a good point. Remember that with any of these PBQ’s, we have to put on the CompTIA glasses and look at it thru their point of view ( even if it’s not satisfactorily explained ) You make a good point however! 👍

@@JustCallMeRedK So basically since the L3 switches up top have SFP+ the other ports need them as well otherwise they would need transceivers to go from SFP+ to RJ45? Twinax are DAC so they just plug in from the server to the DAS.
