@@moonwalk8836 yeah about that last part... lol Newer chips should only shut your system down if you are in some kind of overclock or are experiencing a hardware problem. A modern chip should not be shutting down when your temps get high--it is designed to throttle your clock speeds down until the on-die temperature monitoring says it's safe. The fans will sound like this the whole time that's happening though. I remember when AMD CPUs didn't have heat spreaders and yeah, red hot was a brief stop on the way to turning those 1s and 0s into a cloud of silicon shrapnel. They either burned out, catastrophically overheated, or the rapid temperature change on the die would cause it to crack and throw bits of silicon all over your system.

I got this same model back in 2009 I think, I still have it but don't use it anymore. I made sure to clean out the dust once a year and it is still almost as clean as new. The last time I properly used it was around 2018, and honestly it ran alright. It came with Vista but Windows 7 was released that same year, so had upgraded to 7 pretty soon after buying it. It now has Windows 10 and still does a decent job of basic web browsing and video playback.

This is just the basics that many people need to know because if there is a problem like this it is caused by the fan falling off or the silicone deteriorating. Some people can fix it themselves or take it to a technician.

They failed on their own... No user involvement required. It was so common that I purchased several replacement brackets so I'd have on-hand for when another one went. I happened to still have a few when this happened, so it got fixed up and put back into service.

I had an old ME system that I was trying to recover in DOS mod. Forgotten I hadn't hooked up the fan on the CPU cooler and some 10-15 minutes later I hear a massive BANG and a spark as the heatsink got so hot the clip warped and it flew off. It was still very hot 30 minutes later after yanking the cord.
