I'm switching from Agriculture to Computer science this year from South Africa ❤

Why not just do an agritech degree? No point in not using the knowledge you learned. Or you could ask your school about it. If you have a major in tech and a minor in agriculture. It will make you pretty valuable to agriculture companies. Agritech is a growing field.

well graduate level circa 1970. As time goes on, the material becomes condensed and passes into the undergraduate realm. Thank you for the video, I dimly remember this book. IMO, these books still have much to teach, although not in the way they were first written.

I had a friend who subscribed to the Folio Society for books to smell. He would buy a paperback copy of the same text for actual reading. :-)*

I'm on the lookout for books that show how to make assemblers

Same here, actually. There one called Assemblers and Loaders that is fantabulous. This channel did a review of a book (that I recently saw) called Systems Programming by Donovan. Beyond that, you might be quite surprised (or not), using ChatGPT o1 and Claude I was able to prompt one into existence as well and get some esoteric features like macros, control statements, banking, etc (I'm doing a famous 8-bit CPU). If nothing else, the LLM when prompted correctly can be a treasure trove of information or ability.

Assemblers and Loaders is a good one. On this channel is a review of one called Systems Programming by Donovan. Linkers and Loaders also covers an interesting aspect. And if you're up to it, a good LLM (o1 or Claude) has been very useful to me. Leland Beck System Software

@@shawn_bullock i ordered the Donovan book i saw in the last review. I'll get the Salomon assemblers and linkers one too. I already got the Levine linkers and loaders book years ago

@@h7qvi I recently used an LLM (claude and o1) to prompt an assembler into existance for an 8-bit CPU. It even gave me macros, linking, control statements, and other esoteric features. If you want to do it by hand, at the least, LLMs can be very educational

Is 370$ the inexpensive you were talking about or the price just shot up because of a supply shock caused by this vid? I am rly interested in this book guess I'll check back in a month or two to see if price has stabilized

This book is outdated. Now, you use C, C++, and Rust for programming. Now, we have CPUs with multiple cores and multiple CPUs in a system. The defacto book for operating systems is the Silberchatz book.

the C programming language book by Ritchie is the worst book to learn C from. Do not under any circumstance learn C language from this book.

But it's a great shelf-book! It's a great conversation piece, knowing that you have a computer science book, written in 1978, which still has code that will run today.
