Computer's multimedia editor Charles Severance speaks with Mozilla CTO Brendan Eich about how the latter created JavaScript in 1995. As HTML5 emerges, it's entirely possible that JavaScript will soon become a dominant programming language for both mobile and desktop applications, which is impressive for a language Eich developed in 10 days nearly 20 years ago. From Computer's February 2012 issue: opac.ieeecomput...

"It needs to be designed in 10 days. It has to look like Java but, it can't compete with it."

he has adhd. i can tell by the way that he gets super excited to respond so he tends to cut the interviewer off, he can't really stop moving, and he talks really fast too. adhd people tend to be very bright. i have adhd but am an outlier. lol.

Haha :) Well, whatever your feelings about javascript, Eich is incredibly sharp and articulate. I really like listening to him talk, either on KZbin or podcasts. He gives a lot of insight into the world of browsers and his involvement with them, from the early days of Mosaic and the context in which he created JS at Netscape to today's Brave browser, basic attention tokens, ad tech, etc. A wealth of information

@@MichaelPohoreski What's not to like about a gigantic callback function smashed into the tiny spot where a parameter name is supposed to be? Still, when he made it web pages were more or less static. That it's become as important as it is, that's the work of satan.

@@MichaelPohoreski It's not common to see someone reply to a comment from 6 years ago and then get a reply from the original poster. How does it feel looking back on your comments from so long ago? I always cringe when I come across mine..

@@Mogwai88 Some age well, some don't. "JavaSchit" is _slowly_ getting better. It is still a toy language but for prototyping it can be easy to throw something together.
