That was very interesting to learn about the methods used to drive and set bushings with no need to muck them up with new ports bc someone doesn't take the time to think things through like you did/do. Awesome stuff Gary.

Hi Gary Just a pleasure to watch you work and you didnt need cad to plan it all out of your head, having use of and old gudgeon pin bush helped a lot like the way you used brass so it wouldnt scuff the inside of the conrod .plus the scotchbrite polish on the leading edge. Now at 82 years of age I get the pleasure of going to work with my landlord and full use of his workshop we have a great time.

.003 clearance on wrist pins is very large compared to what I’m used to! But then the wrist pins are larger in diameter than the crank journals I’ve worked with! I hate to think what the reciprocating weight is in that engine. Those rods are massive! You did it right!

If the wrist pin that is .875 has .0003 clearance. .003 is a lot, Evan if it’s that large. I’m with you.

A very elegant solution to creating the tools needed to remove and install the connecting rod bushings.

Those are some big piston rods from that giant GE burner, we were unaware of these burners until you shared it, so see we are always learning and more then just the machining we are comfortable with. Now those cool angle lathed parts make sense, great straight flat idea. What a nice portable hydraulic press it made greater ease for getting these bushing out for your project, then even the oil hole alignment then press in the new one. That estate sale press is great for your work, nice share. Lance & Patrick.

Thank you Chris, Its always nice when your customer wants it done right and not worried about the cost. But then again when a new set of rods (16) cost $80,000 they just want the job done right. Thank for checking out my video.Gary
