I think that goes both ways, Jordon was ultimately trying to; if anything introduce Conan about a proper table manners and the intricacies of Japanese culture. But sadly this “meat-head” Conan, suffers immensely about his self-identity, and turns everything about himself into this super inflated eagle. ~Completely so fool of himself! His money and fame means nothing there! Jordan scores again!!!

@Luiblonc i understand that he wants to introduce Conan to Japanese culture and etiquette, but i think he should have done more research before doing so, pointing and flailing his chopsticks are bad manners. And makes him looks like a pretentious person.
@Luiblonc3 ай бұрын
@@godzillaex1288You’re entitled to your opinion. What you have to know, is that Conan is in the industry of show-business as an American comedian personality. Hence, it is his bread-butter, and is always on the quest to find new material to develop. Jordan on the other end, is incidentally part of his staff but on a remotely personal level is quite a well read fellow and culturally sensitive. Canon, only brought on Jordan based on his followers feed-back, to bring him back - how convenient. *Jordan is not pretentious at all, but I’d say culturally sensitive if that. Conan on the other hand is just too overly passive-aggressive, which sadly makes him look quite so insecure. But perhaps is the character that he preserves and the DNA of Conan.

I actually found this video to be amazingly revealing in many ways. Glad I watched the whole thing, but it really starts to become clear at around the 45 minute mark why Jordan creates such a good foil for Conan. It’s super interesting to me because I feel like I’ve been in both Jordan’s and Conan’s shoes before. Conan and Jordan are actually very similar people, and I think that’s why they can actually talk this way. They’ve just reached two different conclusions in life philosophically. Every single criticism here that Jordan levels at Conan, referring to his eating habits, his childishness, his seeking out comfort and asserting himself as the dominant male as a defense mechanism... all of it applies directly to Jordan himself. He’s only capable of such criticisms because he’s guilty of all the things he sees in Conan. These are two highly intelligent men, and they actually seem to suffer from similar sociopathies. Jordan’s main point is that Conan uses his status as a security blanket, but as the dinner goes on Jordan is more and more empowered by saying these things out loud. He simply wants to feel good, and projecting himself onto Conan while berating that projection makes him feel like he’s conquering his own demons. He feels powerful. He’s asserting dominance over the parts of himself that he hates, and that he also sees in Conan. He hates the idea of being seen as childish, so he accuses Conan of being child-like. He overcorrects this behavior in himself, which makes him seem robotic and devoid of playfulness. He hates the idea of being seen as undesirable, so he attacks Conan’s belly fat. He says he can see Conan’s intelligence buzzing in his eyes, making Conan unable to relax and enjoy life. But saying this makes his hypocrisy clear, because Jordan himself is using every analytical bone in his body to go after Conan, making his own experience less enjoyable. He is a prisoner to his drive to always be correct, just as Conan is a prisoner in his drive to always be funny. Both being correct and being funny are just tools toward the end goal- being desirable or worth admiration. Which sets Conan up perfectly for the win. Conan knows this about Jordan. He prepared ahead of time. Right when Jordan builds himself to his peak levels of rutting, Conan deals the final blow by demonstrating that all of Jordan’s expertise is artifice. It’s fake. He brought the proof that broke Jordan by forcing him to confront the fact that he is not correct, and therefore not desirable, and therefore not Conan’s equal. Conan, on the other hand, is less of a prisoner to his insecurities, but still driven to maintain dominance. He is willing to take Jordan’s worst criticism head on and say “hey, maybe you’re right. But my mental issues have created all the jobs in this room”. He’s willing to admit to his flaws and confront them without shame or embarrassment. Jordan cannot do the same. For example, he accuses Conan of picking at his shirt for comfort. Conan freely admits it. Jordan jumps on this like a hound, trying to land a blow and make Conan feel like he lost the sparring match. But Jordan fails to recognize that the very flaw he’s jumping on is just another version of the thing he’s worshiping in this dinner. Every element placed carefully, everything beautiful, for the express purpose of elevating the human experience. Both are seeking comfort, but Jordan’s anxieties won’t let him find it, because when he sees that quality in others he discovers that he hates it. Revealing that he hates himself, because he cannot admit his own humanity in a way that makes him seem fragile. He’s only allowed himself to seek comfort from a place of strength, and not from a place of vulnerability. This makes him despise the fragile humanity that exists in himself. Conan has thought three steps ahead though. That’s why he waits until an hour in to shut Jordan down hard. He knows how Jordan works because he knows how his own mind works. His ability to admit his insecurities gives him the ability to see the same insecurities in Jordan, so he knows exactly how to hit him where it hurts the most. Both seek two things- joy and legacy. Because seeking to be a either always correct or always funny are just ways of expressing that they want to be desired by others, or admirable in the eyes of others. And this is just presumes that if others admire you, then you can have the joy you think you deserve, because others think you deserve it also. You are dominant in the eyes of both yourself and your fellow man, giving the assurances you need to allow yourself to feel joy and accomplishment. Jordan’s philosophy is that if he can learn enough about the world, he will finally crack the code on how to achieve both of those things without worrying about making a fatal misstep. Conan’s philosophy is that these things can only be achieved through and endless series of vulnerable missteps on the way to greatness, by putting himself at risk of humiliation over and over until he achieves success. Conan is the trailblazer on the path, Jordan is the cartographer that must understand every possible path before proceeding. Conan’s philosophy is the honest exuberance of a puppy, and Jordan’s is the careful considerations a cat. I think Conan understands that both of them will die eventually, we are all just humans struggling to find joy and we are all equal in that way, but the puppy usually gets more love. This is frustrating for Jordan, because despite his intelligence, and in fact due to his inability to stop putting his intelligence on a pedestal, he can’t unwind enough to achieve the effortless joy that comes so easily to Conan. His joy is always a battle. In a way, the simple perfection of the dining experience in terms of clean, simple, beautiful food and setting are a reflection of Jordan’s view of his idealized self, which Conan is intruding on. His need to establish dominance over Conan is the same as his need to maintain dominance over himself, he’s protecting his ideals expressed in the setting around him. You can see this when he tells Conan to “just sit” in a commanding tone and Conan responds “I’m your boss”. He’s not worried about Conan being restless, his anxiety just demands that he maintains control over his idealized environment out of fear. tl;dr Jordan needs to smoke some weed and stop missing the forest for the trees. It would be very therapeutic for them to both experience a place that neither of them knows anything about, like India. No research. No careful consideration. Jordan needs to put himself in a position where the pace of unknown experiences outstrip his ability to plan ahead, forcing him to truly live in a moment with no idea what might happen. Notice how Jordan rarely or never asks questions. He doesn’t want people to witness his ignorance. He should go somewhere where he needs to ask questions to survive for a week, and bring his friend Conan to witness that part of him.

Jordan is definetely jealous of the fact that Conan's status and wealth gives him access to the trip of Jordan's dreams as well as to his childhood hero. That's why he had to state ' I can get to Maccio ' with such despair.

I had this kind of insufferable friend who was always constantly trying turn every sentence of a conversation into some kind of teachable moment, when I was not needing or asking to be taught. These two make a fantastic comic duo together, diametrically opposed, Schlansky is the ultimate "straight man"

@@maryanneayumi9594 I had dinner with friends who just moved here from Japan the other night and I was joking with them saying: "I know making slurping sound eating noodles is polite, but I can't do it even if I try, like I'd choke on them", he answered "Oh yes, it takes a lot of practice". 😂

"If we were alone on an iceberg for 1,000 years there wouldn't be enough time to talk about the Styx" Too funny! Love that Schlansky breaks character around 40:10 mark. You can hear the camera crew laughing at them flexing about being able to get to Ralph Macchio.
