I think his character is "technically" just an American businessman interested in their cheese production. The older lady in the beginning of the scene assumes him to be a Mennonite because he "sounds funny". Her assumption (and likely also the one of the average older Mexican female watching) comes from the large Mennonite community in northern Mexico. Just like there's a common stereotype in the US of the poor Mexican child selling Chiclets or other knick knacks at the border, there exists one throughout Mexico of the fair skinned blond Mennonite child in old timey clothing selling cheese on the street in certain regions of northern Mexico.

Its a german person blonde haired blue eyed from certain dry county's in some states and they migrated here during world war 2 and have their own laws and dress like ommish people, they sell no beer and it sucked because I had to travel 50 miles just to get some when I worked in a Mennonite town for a few weeks 7 years ago. Oh and at night alot of them gather in a church, I know because while I was there I was in a housing facility 2 blocks from the church, it was all a little weird because they all spoke spanish.

To the idiots saying that most of the actresses in Mexican telenovelas are foreigners because they can’t accept the fact that Mexican women can be beautiful let me tell you that yes there are a lot of foreigner actresses (because Mexico pays actors and actresses a lot more than other Latin countries) but most of the time they play side roles. The main protagonists are played by Mexican actresses such as Renata Notni (the one in this novela), Silvia Navarro, Adriana Louvier, Ariadne Diaz, Thalia, Sandra Echeverria, Jacqueline Bracamontes, Bibi Gaitan, Maite Perroni, Eiza González, Ana Brenda Contreras and Aracely Arámbula along with many others.
