I think the remotes showed us how truly kooky and off the walls funny Conan is in a more casual setting, but I feel the same. Conan started right around the time I was in middle school, and started staying up late in the Summer. When my friend and I discovered his show I was an instant and lifelong fan. The podcast has shown that we were still underestimating his comedic genius.

Hate to be a cynic, but it's a pretty obvious PR stunt. They get their first class flights paid for and maybe an "appearance fee" to come and see the pope with the cameras going to show that the church has support from celebrities and the like. Catholicism has been on the decline for awhile now. They need all the good PR they can get.

I was in a Catholic youth group in high school. In 2002 I got to go to World Youth Day in Toronto and it was amazing. We had a "host family" in Canada who was an older lady we stayed with who cooked us breakfast. The coolest thing was not just that we saw the pope (John Paul II at the time), but that there were so many beautiful people from all around the world. We exchanged bracelets and pins from Maine with other people. I remember playing cards with people from New Zealand. It was so awesome and one of my favorite life memories. I'm so glad Conan and the others got to have this experience.

I enjoyed this clip. I hope these comedians took the opportunity to learn more about their faith and deepen their relationships with God. I hope they were briefed on protocols as well (I.e. the proper way to approach his Holiness. Also they are vestments, not costumes). The Swiss Guard (the men wearing the colored uniforms which were designed by Artist Michelangelo and have never been redesigned also carrying a halbert (a sword with an axe on the end) which are a weapon assigned only to the Swiss Guard. The Swiss Guard are a true Army and each soldier has been trained to protect the Pope and readied for armed battle at any moment. I am just remembering from the times I went there. You could move to Rome and not be able to fully absorb all of the knowledge that your heart and mind will long for. It is an experience incomparable to the Pulitzer Prize. ❤🙏

I'm Italian and I don't forgive myself for not trying to get there. It takes 3 hours by train to go to Rome from my hometrown. Maybe I could have seen Conan or Stephen, even if that's a remote possibility. I also have nothing against the Pope (who speaks a decent Italian in a strong Spanish accent). On the other hand I honestly have little interest in Italian comedians: some of them are quite good but others honestly are incredibly annoying.
